American is a Nationality. My family arrived in 1619 and the Pilgrims arrived a couple years later. In 1776 the English crown ruled this land. The push to end the slave trade lead to the overthrow of the English Royalty(rule) and hence America was born. It took to 1865 to attain pseudo freedom from the lash, the selling of our children and family members. The 13 amendment outlawed chattel slavery and private ownership of human beings. The 14th amendment proclaimed that (African) when born in America are citizens of America. and finally the 15th amendment instituted Voting rights, which because of apartheid i.e. Jim Crow laws, wasn't actually realized until 1970.
