Usa program played together for 20 months just for this tournament while the other teams come together for the tournament from many other teams. This US development program is Similar to the old ussr hockey system in the 70s and 80s. Despite all the recruiting early and the training the Swedes still beat them…twice. Bra Jobbat!

Ohgren played on injections, Lekkerimaki played post-illness and SWE lost Leo Carlsson, a clutch centerman for the 2nd line, earlier in the tournament.. what an effort this was!

there is no such thing as a perfect tournament.. if you domiate up until the final, your down game will probably be the final. prime example of this is U20 2021, canada played the best junior hockey I've seen, but got shutdown buy a defensive US in the final. 2019 Hlinka, canada hyped to be the best group forever, dominating in the group, squeezed by a tight semi and lost in the final. Swedens group play streak of 53 games.. if you win your group, you all of a sudden HAVE to win 7 games in a row to win gold, that is difficult.you can find these examples every year.. these tournament are strange in that way, and why we should celebrate the winners, but not make to many assumptions. like James Duthie likes to do.

This is a mean nothing tourney , not really watched in Canada, it takes place during the CHL playoffs so many of Canadian and US players aren't available because they are playing for their club teams . Watch the Gretzky Hlinka Cup in August its the true U18 tourney ,when all the best players can play .

Also, this is always the case in championships held during the season for any nation. You just have to prioritize.
