This song is magnificent. Takes me right back to my own teen days. What a lyric, what a melody, what a guitar riff. Perfect.

This is probably my favorite song off of SOI. "You can't return to where you never left" is so true, and I think most people never leave their childhoods fully behind. Bono called SOI a "sacramental album," and "Blossoms falling from a tree/They cover you and cover me" provides pictures of grace and forgiveness amidst the turbulence of "Cymbals crashing, Bibles smashing/Paint the world you need to see." The whole song is a gem.

I find this song very similar to Lights of Home, where you know you feel happy to visit your old street again and to see your hometown brings memories to you that no one else feels. That’s what makes it so special

I live on Cedarwood Avenue and still live there at the same time bono lived there I remember his mother well and it was not a war zone in owe teens it was a great place to live in talking crap.

I don't think he meant a war zone literally. He's talking about teenage angst, hence the "war zone" line.

I was running down the road The fear was all i knew I was looking for a soul that’s real Then i ran into you And that cherry blossom tree Was a gateway to the sun And friendship, once it’s won It’s won, it’s one Northside just across the river to the southside That’s a long way here All the green and all the gold The hurt you hide, the joy you hold The foolish pride that gets you out the door Up on cedarwood road, on cedarwood road Sleepwalking down the road Not waking from these dreams ‘cause it’s never dead it’s still my head It was a warzone in my teens I’m still standing on that street Still need an enemy The worst ones i can’t see You can, you can Northside just across the river from the southside That’s a long way here All the green and all the gold The hurt you hide and the joy you hold The foolish pride that sends you back for more Up on cedarwood road, on cedarwood road If the door is open it isn’t theft You can’t return to where you’ve never left Blossoms falling from a tree they cover you and cover me Symbols clashing, bibles smashing Paint the world you need to see Sometimes fear is the only place that we can call our home Cedarwood road A heart that is broken Is a heart that is open

Great song. Love it. Love that little guitar riff in the beginning and throughout the song. Wish the crowd was more enthusiastic. They didn’t seem to enjoy it

Having seen this show a couple times, there was a pretty big thematic element here, almost more of a story than anything else. Also that screen and those effects in person were mind blowing
