Always loved this song and you can say what you like about U2 but no one can deny they always put on a great show

In the beginning, Bono yelled, "Hutch," dedicating this song to Michael Hutchence of INXS, who died on November 22, 1997.

Still one of the best live bands of all time. Professional artists.

There are loads of these 'reaction' type channels but our man David here keeps it real, doesn't sugar coat it and highlights what works and what doesn't work for him, Clayton is one of the most underrated bassists on the planet, I get why people don't like Bono due to his preaching whilst jetting around the globe to his mansions but they are a great band, great artists of which we don't get many of these days, not proper ones if that makes sense as it's all sterile now bar a few, U2 are great when they don't chase hits, they are at their best when they are experimental but they haven't been on that line much post 1999, back in the 90's they were one of the best to have ever done it and the 180 reinvention they did from the 80s to the 90's is legendary, don't think many bands could do it, imo their 90's work was their best and their Pop album and Popmart tour was ironically the least 'Pop' thing they ever did bar passengers, I'm the same age as U2 were in 2004, maybe getting older you just lose whatever 'it' factor you got but I know IF they gave it a shot they could release one more album call it 'Man' and in doing so close the show given their first album was 'Boy', I doubt it but maybe, just maybe, they got one last rock album in them, not safe songs, we have more than enough of the safe songs, NLOTH was a half step but best work, again just my opinion, they've done this century and it still doesn't hold a candle to their older work, all the best from Ireland, if any of you haven't give their new (2002-3) demos a go, there are some truly amazing songs on there that I would put up against anything they've EVER DONE, stand outs 'Treason', 'Proof of Life', 'Happiness' and the one we've known for a while 'X&W Pictures of You' (which was changed into the pedestrian 'Fast Cars' for some reason I cannot fathom), Eire out 🇮🇪🙏🤝

David, my man 🇮🇪🤝🇺🇸 respect to ye, you say it as it is, please try U2's 'Treason', after Pop (imo their best album 1997, Gone is from that) they panicked and went into 'safe mode' and U2 are not at their best but they have gems on each album, I'm 43 now but Pop i was a moody teenager and wrote U2 off as "an old band" but that Popmart tour is still to this day the best concert I've ever been to, it was wild and got me into U2, I've waited over a quarter of century for them to blow my mind again but it never arrived UNTIL they recently released a shadow album to their 2004 album and there are three songs off that in particular, 'X&W Pictures of You', 'Happiness' and and 'Treason' and they are all amazing, truly amazing, raw enough so the life was not produced out of it as they tend to do, please try them brother, I think you'll be surprised, I know I shouldn't bring poltics into it but unlike tax dodger Bono most of us like your new President and he seems to be the only one to get away from the cusp of ww3, for a live U2 song try their 'Hold me thrill me kiss me kiII me' or 'Discotheque' live Popmart tour, actually 'Please' from the same tour or 'Bullet the Blue Sky' (Popmart version as I know you are a bassist like me), God bless brother 🙏

I watch plenty of reaction vids and you're in the top 5 for keeping it real and not kissing ass to the song or the person that requested it. Plus you know you're music, technically and artistically. Good stuff once again!

The Edge threw and kicked the guitar because he was mad at Larry for ending the song to EARLY. He wanted to keep the groove they had going.

Watching this makes me realize that it's been a solid 10 years since Bono had his bike accident in NYC (Nov 2014) and, as far as I know, we've never seen him play guitar since. I don't think he has the motor skills in his fingers anymore to press down on the frets. What a shame, that must be terrible for him as a musician and performer. I know he was never a driving guitar force in the band, but he was perhaps a force multiplier and I miss seeing/listening to him play. I think he even auctioned a few of his prized guitars away to charity (like his custom-painted "I feel good!" black Gibson that he played on the ZooTV tour). Anyway, thanks for the video !

Went to a couple of shows on this tour- Gone rocked live. Throughout the show, bono does a lot of interacting with the crowd. So, occasionally it's cool to see just up there jamming with the bandmates. Also, they tweaked this song a few times live, with the core remaining constant. And, for some reason bono seemed to be holding back a bit on this one. Seen him hit a harder on a few versions.maybe had a cold, haha, who knows exactly why.

About guitar slamming, Edge said that the ending was going too long and the song was being killed.

Thanks David, loved the reaction! Bono once said, in jest, that he sometimes plays his guitar to egg the Edge on to play stronger. He tells Edge that "U2 needs at least one guitarist who's going to rock out". That said, Bono often plays guitar on this song, so I don't think he was trying to drive Edge any here. Unfortunately, when Bono plays guitar, he has tendency to interact less with the crowd. Regarding Edge kicking the guitar, some say he had a guitar malfunction. I tend to believe the other theory, which was that they had planned an alternate ending with a longer solo, and the drummer forgot and played the original ending. I put more credibility into this theory, as there are clips of Edge after he kicks his guitar just up in the drummer's face going off on him.

On the DVD extra if I remember right there's a different angle after the song where you see Edge shouting at Larry after he's kicked the guitar away. Apparently Larry was so into it, he kept the song going longer when Edge was strumming at max speed and Edge needed him to stop.😂

Great driving playlist song, album version. I remember hearing they filmed multiple nights and may have spliced in footage of edge being legit pissed another night into this nights performance, to be included in the final DVD release..for the sake of rock and roll. But that was 20 years ago...

One thing to keep in mind with this song and other is that Terry Lawless is somewhere around the stage on keyboard. He comes out with the band sometimes, but generally seems OK to just get paid a lot of money and stay out of the limelight, which actually would be a good gig.

Love this song, and the album Pop it is on is highly underrated. I am a little surprised by the score though. I also LOVE U2 live. So the standard to compare against is high. This performance is fine. I would rank it lower, even though I love the song. Probably a 7,1 or so. Im not even detracting due to lack of visuals (Popmart was more visual) or showmanship. In general it didnt have either the lift, or atmosphere, or weight or energy in some form (hyped or emotional... something) that U2 performances predominantly have. Even a seemingly kitsch crowd-pleaser song like Elevation (which is great live) they perform with more emotion and verve than this. Ive also heard more intense performances of this song (lower quality recording though)
