Bonos voice around this era was outstanding. He had such a great vocal range. His falsetto was ridiculously good This was U2’s experimental stage , the 90’s was about experimenting. You were right about the song....well sort of. It is about women....... but really is about Bono's mother who passed away when he was young. He has memories of her wearing a lemon coloured dress.

You were close but the song is also about his mother: The lyrics are based on a home video of Bono's mother where she is wearing lemon (yellow). She died when Bono was 14. "I have very few memories of my mother because my father never talked about her after she died," Bono writes in the band bio U2 by U2. "So it was a very strange experience to receive, in the post, from a very distant relative, Super 8 footage of my mother, aged 24, younger than me, playing a game of rounders in slow motion. This beautiful, young Irish girl, with a narrow waist, curvaceous figure, dark gypsy hair. The film was early color and it looked extraordinary. It was a wedding, where she was the maid of honor in this beautiful lemon dress." Of the lyrics Bono says, "There were two things going on at once, memory and loss, a portrait of a girl in a shimmering lemon dress that kept it sexy and playful and the pathos of a man separated from the things he loves... 'Lemon' is about leaving home, versus not leaving home." They have such a rich body of work with enticing poetic lyrics ❤

I think that it's the color of one of his mother's dresses - lemon yellow. She passed away when he was still a young teen. He does expand the memory to include the romantic pursuit of women in general though. If you're ever wondering what a U2 song is about, though, you will be right most of the time if you just say that it is about Bono's relationships with his mother, his father and his wife. Sometimes it's just one of those, but often-times it is all three. That's most of U2's song catalogue right there.

Brad, my sister passed away last week and our song was U2's 'Ground Beneath Her Feet' (studio version), and if you could react or even just listen to it, it would mean the world to me and I know my big sister will be up there smiling, I loved her so very much and I still cannot believe she has gone, my brother Michael loved the song too but he took an od of antidepressants in 2020, she was 46, he was 33, respect from Ireland either way, God bless you son of America 🇮🇪🤝🇺🇸

Well, it was inspired by a video clip of his mother who died when he was a teenager. In that sense its about longing for her and experiencing her through the camera lense ("a moving picture").

To me this is a love song even though it may sound to some a bit odd, but as at the beginning it says: 'SHE wore lemon' Some times love can be bitter and I don't think that Bono is singing here just about clothes...
