There was a huge dynamic electro prophetic explosion in my mind during this period in 90's British Dance Rock music... This awesome bass riff... was almost exactly the same as a track other 'legendary music creator' Liam Howlett wrote on 'Fat of the Land'. Edge is using an expression pedal to shift the pitch of the note. (An expression pedal is basically a wah, except you can use it to shift volume or pitch.) So first, he strikes the note with the pedal closed / down. Then he kicks the pedal ALL the way up / open, which makes the note SCREAM up 2 octaves. Then he lowers the pedal / pitch all the way down and gradually brings it back up a bit again. The sustain is probably assisted by a compressor / booster and possibly an eBow (famously used to sustain the notes in the first half of With or Without You).

iv noticed that Bonos Voice is Better Now than it was during the Popmart Tour. Bono kicked ass at Zoo Tv but then when Pop came out his voice sounded droned out. Maybe he was depressed or Taking Pain Killers or Something im not sure but all I know is Now He Kicks Major Ass. Maybe he had Vocal Surgery

His voice was shot for a few years in the mid-90s. Hence his reliance on falsetto notes in most of the songs during Pop. To be honest it took a while for him to get his voice back. It still wasn't there for ATYCLB. But was back for ...Atomic Bomb.
