1983, I'm in high school, cable television came to town, and there was this channel - MTV - that played music videoes. I had this silly thought in my mind that as an African-American, I could not watch rock music videoes (read white people music). Never mind that rock and roll is an African-American music form, I was brainwashed. I keep hearing people at school talking about music videos, so one day, I decided to watch one. It was U2 "New Years Day." Saying that my mind was blown is an understatement. Bono's voice! That emotive Irish soul voice! It changed my musical life forever. By the end of that week, I had someone record that album ("War") on the "A" side of a cassette tape. They put The Clash "Combat Rock" on the "B" side. Like I said, my musical life was never the same. Welcome to the U2 family.

@@tekay44 God asks us to be vessels of his water. So, true Christians are tools in fact. But like a pot of earthenware: fragile, faulty with cracks in the side. But a thirsty one will get water to drink through such vessels. So I can't say he hasn't faults (cracks ib the side) - but he does tell true words too. And such good deeds never go unpunished in this world. At least they will draw ridicule and mockery to the person(s) who cares for others. I can't vouch for how authentic Christian he is, but he has done some things that go along with what he preaches. He talks the talk and walks the walk - at least sometimes. That's like walking on water: with God you can do it, but once you get scared that a man can't do that, you fail, are like anybody else. But God can lift you there again, to walk on water again. To really do good. Those who receive it, are the real judges of the authenticity. If he has been used by some religious and political leaders, well - that's a loss for us all. Except for those who receive something good through it, though those who helped them did it for the wrong reasons.

Ivan J. Conway They have many haters. They have never been forgiven for downloading their album to everyone free of charge and without permission. It didn’t bother me and it does not distract from their talent as far as I am concerned. It’s quite complex just google why are U2 hated, loads of articles will come up
@ivanj.conway99194 жыл бұрын
@@personalcheeses8073 : Well, I can't see their fans or the general public hating them for something like that. I only, assume they feel as if they've made enough money now, so why not share their talent freely. This is part of the reason I feel you should go into business for yourself, if you can, when you get into this type of work, if one wants to call it that, so you can have total, say and control over what you, yourself, produce. Agents, promoters, mangers and so forth, can be real, leaches sometimes, in how they can really, ruin the creativity and enjoyment of an artist career. When the business of the art so overshadows the art itself, that the art suffers because of it, it's time for the business aspect to go, I would think. A good chunk of the reason that the music "business" has hit rock bottom today, is because of visionless, asshole, prick, business people, who zap all the vision and creativity from the artist. Thus, forcing them to pump out the same old, dry, dead, tasteless, drone, crap that's been shoved down our throats for some 25 plus, years now, because they, themselves, THINK, it's going to sell. They don't give one sweet, you know what, for the art, itself, but how much damn, money they can make off of it. Personally, I think Simon Cowel for example, is a prime example of this. Him and his sort are utterly and completely, ruining the music industry today. And I use the word "industry" very, very, loosely, here. Would you not agree? U2 should fire the whole, damn, lot and do what they want. Surely, at this stage, they don't need any of them. My Retro/Vintage/Old School Best. Out.

In England, at Live Aid, Queen was the 2nd band after U2 performed. Bono, the lead singer, used about 5 minutes of their 18 minute time slot to save a woman who he saw getting seriously smushed in the front of the crowd. He leapt off the stage and helped pull her loose! He is a true humanitarian, all his life... working to help the poorer countries in Africa and all sorts of good deeds and projects. Just an incredible soul and a talented musician, along with the band. They are Irish, from Dublin I believe. I recommend “Bad,” and “l Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” for starters. I never hear people bring it up is One Tree Hill by U2. It's a song written for one of U2's friends and roadie for the band that tragically died in a motorcycle accident in Dublin, Ireland. He was a Kiwi. When U2 were in New Zealand he brought them to One Tree Hill which is a volcanic mountain that against all odds had a tree growing on it. Fitting for a tribute. I LOVED to see your reaction to this. That's exactly why I'm a U2 fan. Their music is SO deep and on top of that they're great ppl as well. You should check out some of their live stuff as well, bc that's where they live. Slane Castle is probably one of their most legendary concert, check out All I Want is You / Where the streets have no name. These two songs blend in so well and are SO moving bc Bono just buried his father days before the show.

Stay (Faraway, so close!) is probably the best U2 song.

Superb, i requested this one a long time ago. Congrat's on discovering U2 James. My fave song by U2 is "if god will send his angels". It's awesome. Boney M (live at sopot festival 1979) singing Rivers Of Babylon is my top request. (A mind blower). TY
