Not JUST a musical journey. But a POWERFUL, TIMELESS, ETERNAL EDUCATION. And it continues. THAT'S why these songs by the boys are timeless and eternal, until Jesus returns and straightens all this crap out.
@sahcapresidentialoffice86564 жыл бұрын
Everytime when I hear this song Im almost reduced to tears because then I was accused of listening to white peoples music by my black brothers here in South Africa. I tried invain to explain the lyrics or mesaage behind the songs. Even now maybe only 1% of black activists know about U2, Peter Gabriel, Annie Lenox, Midnight Oil etc. However we the informed few will always feel indebted to Bono and the boys.

Very nice to read your words and carry on spreading the message. There's a lot of joy in the music of U2 with some soul too.
@redshift83023 жыл бұрын
You should ask the brothers whether they will use devices such as CT Scan, X-ray, Pacemaker made by whites?
@scott.miller3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for spreading your message. On a spiritual level, it reduces me to tears that the presence of apartheid and its consequences linger, but it is just as devastating that this evil has destroyed so much of the human spirit that the medium of music, which many musicians and listeners agree carries a powerful ingredient to bring people together and to heal strife with peace, has fallen victim in this awful battle. It is awful that some have experienced ostracism so strong that this poison has led them to denounce music with a genuinely benevolent message, such as Bono, Gabriel, Lenox, Sting, Creed, Van Halen (for those who will disagree with the latter, I'm referring to the song "Dreams" from their 1986 album, "5150." In 2002, I had the opportunity to sit 8 feet away from South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu when he visited my law school to discuss what he believed was the United States' appropriate position in response to apartheid. It was wonderful. His closing message, which he repeated four times, was "Family! We are...Family! Family!" His eyes just gleamed with goodness. He was fatherly. Your country must be blessed with his influence; he is controversial but he and Mandela put a very bright, global, spotlight on the problem, and DeKlerk, when that needed to happen. I would politely suggest sharing a version of "Silver and Gold" that has Bono's speech: I have not yet listened to this clip but, on the original, 1990 "Rattle & Hum" CD, lead singer Bono goes BEYOND the message of the song, and, during a moment when the band quiets down to let Bono talk, he personally delivers a very direct message to aggressively confront, and eradicate, apartheid. It's a tall order that is not entirely realistic on the horizon, but Bono's strategy is realistic: confront political leaders with facts and force them to advocate for policy that achieves this goal. Bono used the tactic in Washington, D.C. He met with Bill Clinton at length; no substance came from it, but politicians knew that he could shine a bright spotlight on them. ultimately, he stopped, and he disappointed me. But, here, listen to Bono ramp it up, and end with "Join with Archbishop Desi Tutu and his fight against aparthei-EED!" He deliberately extends the "e" vowel and raises his pitch to amplify the word). The crowd goes crazy. My bet is that, among those who shamed you, the majority will be intelligent enough to see through the bullshit and recognize the benevolence for what it is. God bless you.

Bono's words have had the greatest and meaningful influence on my life in the early 80ties when I was a boarding school student. Definitely it was this song that influenced me the most when I was smoking weed while dreaming about the future. I enjoyed that song often at the beginning of a weed night :-) inline with the feeling of a rising heartbeat, like the accelerating speed of a night express leaving a city before a long journey into the night.
