This is the U2 I fell in love with, when they were hungry, raw, revolutionary, and honest. Their first four albums will always resonate in my soul.

@@mickwallace9949 That's no way to talk to someone, learn some manners, and Gebre - you are right, they had something in those early days that no other band seemed to, perhaps a determination without compromising their style, that didn't last through their whole career unfortunately, its hard to imagine they produced crap like "No line on the horizon"

I was 18 and this was my first Rock Werchter, looked forward to it for months. My girlfriend would meet me at the festival. But when we met, she broke up with me. The girl I had a crush on since I was 15 , the future mother of my unborn children, just dumped me. I walked on the festival like a zombie, couldn't get why she did it and then this concert started. Wow, this was new, excited, full of energy, unseen, the future of rock music, it made me forget my sorrows en even to this day, I will mention it as the best gig I ever saw. And for the people who like happy endings. 3 years and a few failed relationships later, that girl finally realized that it would be a good idea to be the mother of our children. 34 years later, we still go each year to Rock Werchter and I ask her every time if she plans on breaking up with me, but so far, I have been lucky.

This is one of the most interesting comments I have ever seen on a KZbin video. It's very cool of you to share such a personal memory, and that is just the 1st paragraph. When I clicked "Read More", I was pleasantly surprised by the happy ending. At 55 years old, I feel this kind of deep personal connection to live music has been lost in the "Tweets & Likes" culture in which we now live... so nice to know that there is still someone out there who can share a story that really connects their life to a concert so long ago. 34 years together. Wow, thank you for sharing such a wonderful story.

My favorite U2 time (Boy/October/War). Their creativity exploded with these albums. I can't get over how young and talented they were at this point, and to have this incredible level of complexity in their music compositions. yup, it's just so stellar, the guitar work, the drums, bass, the singing, the atmosphere of the songs... to me one of the great appeals to it is the faith that pours out of those songs. She never knew that the son she had was the greatest frontman of all time, with the greatest rock voice of all time and in the greatest band of all time. Even when a fortune teller told her that she would have a son and that he would be famous, she never knew that it was much more than that: she had given birth to God. Poor Iris Hewson.
