The October Tour rare full concert, within a very rare interview with young Bono, and white flag on stage!

This was a fantastic day .i worked as front of stage security and chatted to Bono before U2 came on and he asked us to build a platform at crowd level from which he jumps into the crowd .im the guy who pulls him out ( white square on jacket ) .dont remember much about the Poliice lol

+Hearty Harry That is so cool! Didn't they already have that magic which told you they were destined for glory? Beautiful. I mean look at them. They had the crowd going way before they ever were a household name. My first U2 concert was in 1987 when my parents let me go. The sound check was more magical than the concert as it felt personal. Totally sober and it was the first and best concert I have ever been to. Can't imagine how much better this concert was for you. Lucky guy!

Thanks for sharing this. There are a lot of U2 detractors around at the moment, but this video shows why they became the world's most successful band - Great songs and pure passion - Check out Bono climbing to the top of the rig at around 15m in and then stage diving into the crowd with no regard for his safety, just wanting to make a point and put on a great show - Brilliant video.

They were one of the support acts, they didn't co-headline the show. In 1982, U2 were a mid-level band making their way up; The Police were probably the biggest band in the world at that stage.

They were. But they weren't as marketable as U2, probably because Adrian was a bit tubby. I'm British and had never even heard of the Sound till a Danish friend introduced me to them in 2004. Most of my British friends who now love them will say the same. Like the Chameleons, they didn't really prove they could stand the test of time until time passed by and people were still falling in love with their music 20 years later.

And I'm starting the Adam Clayton silver-rimmed oval spectacle/glasses Fan Club! I went to London on my big O.E.(overseas experience) from here in New Zealand in '88. I was a big U2 fan. I also wear spectacles/glasses as I'm short-sighted. In London Leicester Square I attended the premier screening of U2 Rattle & Hum movie! That was big to me. In the movie I saw Adam Clayton wearing silver-rimmed oval shaped spectacles and so what did I do? I purchased a brand new pair of silver-rimmed oval glasses just like Clayton's didn't I! Was I soooooo coooooool. Wore them for ages and eventually damaged them beyond repair from sleeping on then drunk again......

This wasn't a tour I think - it was a one off concert with The Beat, Lords of the New Church and someone else I can't remember. U2 were supporting The Police and they smashed them off the stage. Sting was very stung off. Myself and a load of students from Sunderland Poly were there and we all left half way thru the Police as they were so shite. This concert really put U2 on the map
