I never understood why so many people Disliked rattle and hum. I thought it was amazing.
@michaelairton37233 ай бұрын
It had the misfortune of being expected to best, or at least equal, its phenomenal predecessor. It did neither. But it also didn't deserve the critical slagging it received. On its own it was a really good album, both as a snapshot of the band at their first peak as young rock superstars and as a small hint at the direction their music would take a few years later.

"Where The Streets" is quite possibly one of the great openings to an album. It's like the sun rising to a new day of possibilities, and this is possibly the greatest intro to a rock show ever. The way they simply come on stage without a fuss against that red light, the soothing hum of that organ, the counting in by Larry with the sticks and then Edge's guitar kicks in, the lights go on and Bono rips into it. Brilliant.

Letter to U2: I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono! I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage! I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations. Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year! All the Best! Gary Lagstrom

Adrian Selbst I had tickets right against the front of the stage once in the early 90’s and could see under the stage. They have a lot of tech people and musicians under the stage. Edge’s guitar tech is under there making most of his pedal changes for him. There’s a keyboardist with video screens in front of him, so he can see what’s going on above. It’s an impressive operation to keep it looking so clean with just the 4 guys on stage.

As a kid growing up with an Irish mother, I was made to listen to this band from the age of 8 in 1981. Such songs as, stories for boys , October, Gloria, I will follow, party girl, under a blood Red sky, unforgettable 🔥, Electrico, 40, 11 o’clock Tick Tock. These were just a few of my favourites from 81,86 just before the release of The Joshua Tree in 87 With where the streets have no name, with or without you etc. Sunday Bloody Sunday was one that meant the most, my mums home town is Ballymurphy which was the original Sunday Bloody Sunday, just before the event it self, in both circumstances she knew and had friends killed, and of course she met my dad who was serving there as a paratrooper, but not involved in those atrocities. These songs were sung with heart and soul, and will always be a part of my life. Approaching nearly 50 years old, I have most of their material from that era and still love rocking out to it now. Admittedly after Rattle and Hum, I did listen to other stuff, but the older stuff has more soul to it. It was raw, un sampled and great on an LP. Greatest concert, possibly at Red Rocks. Nuff said!

My wife and I have an RV and we're going out to my piece of land in the wilderness in Oregon off the grid to live there. The roads have no streets signs and many are national forest roads with Just a number. It will be far from any cities. We will Have to Move and are heading to where the streets have no name...I empithize with this song, it will be us, on nameless roads in southern Oregon. Yes!!💫🌎

As much as I love this song, and the live versions truly are something special. I have never felt like the entire song adequately lives up to the epic opening. Probably an unfair assessment considering just how spine-tinglingly good the intro is, but to me it's always fallen just a bit flat as the song progressed. I mean, compared to most other songs it's still one of the best, but that introduction takes it to a height that I don't think it ever has the potential to elevate any higher from.
