Bono married his high school friend & later sweetheart- *and they are still married to this day.* So, yes, Shawn, they found a way to work it out-even with Bono staying in the band and U2 becoming global superstars who still sellout stadiums today. In fact, all four lads in U2 are the original members who met & formed the band in high school.

The Edge (guitar) is a master on the DELAY PEDAL. By having an extended repeat on his guitar phrases he produces the bulk of the "soundscape".
@lauraallen556 ай бұрын
He uses many different pedals to produce his sound. He even has his pedals labeled with song titles. He also uses a very thick, dimpled plectrum turned the wrong way around to give the chime-y effect.

There is nothing like a U2 show. I’ve seen them 21 times. They are absolutely incredible every time. See them if you ever get a chance.

Love this song. U2 is always amazing live. I first saw them in 1983 at the Palladium in NYC, and I try to see them when they're in NY. At that 1983 show, Bono said he was so happy that NYC remembered U2, they had been at the Palladium in 1981. So, he's trying to talk to the audience, everybody's yelling, carrying on, having a good time, and Bono said "could you please shut up a minute?" as polite as can be! 😂😂 These are all the original band members.

It is spiritual! I can't live, with or without you.
@lauraallen556 ай бұрын
'the track's lyrics were inspired by Bono's conflicting feelings about the lives he led as a musician and domestic man.' It's not especially spiritual. Some were, but this was darker.

"...love will tear us apart again" is a snippet from the joy division song he occaisionally decides to throw in there at the end.

U2 were in the studio with Joy Division when they were recording "Love Will Tear Us Apart". Martin Hannet, JD's producer, brought them over to help them with their single "11 0' Clock Tick Tock". They got to meet their heroes. Not long after, Ian Curtis died.

The Edge on guitar needs some credit, Bono has said he is the genius behind the band. His guitar is majestic. They added the line, Love Will Tear Us Apart, at the end, it's the title of a song by New Wave band Joy Division. Great video!

Joy Division influenced them quite a bit!

@@lauraallen55 And New Order is another of my favorite bands. I got to see New Order in a small club outside of Akron. Same club I saw Thomas Dolby. Both were great concerts. I'm hoping we'll have a chance to hear Achtung Baby soon. Actually just listened to Songs Of Innocence tonight. I can't believe how people were so upset when they were gifted a copy in iTunes that time. Go figure!
@lauraallen556 ай бұрын
Love New Order, too. :) Not sure why people had a problem with SoI (or SoE either for that matter). Even more so, I saw people coming unstuck over the reworked songs released last year (SoS). I quite like most of them. Some sounded less-good than the originals, but some people may dig them more. Yeah, I asked a few people what the deal was with being so upset about the thing with iTunes (I mean it takes seconds to delete the free song if they hate it, right?), and all I got was a lot of nothing, really. One person said it was the invasion of privacy aspect. Like that's not done in a million ways all the time anyway.@@ohfour-seven6228

Thanks, Shawn; I appreciate the song (you'll have people wanting different versions of the Video), but that doesn't matter - every performance has meaning. Music is what it is. Thanks for all the hard work you put into bringing us great music. NOTE: I've seen Dylan twice, and he changed the sound and arrangement of almost every song in both concerts.

The Joshua Tree album is the reason I became a U2 fan 1987 and they’re still my favorite band to this day. I always say “ Their songs are the soundtrack of my life “ I would highly recommend you to watch the original music video. You will hear a tremendous difference in Bono’s voice. It was more raspy back than, but it sounded so amazing! Give it a try, even if it’s privately.

If people dont ever hear these old songs ,how are they ever going to know if they they like them or not. In my opinion these record label are only hurting themselves.

Totally agree - they’re shutting down free publicity.

As others have mentioned, this is not the greatest version of this song. I would actually almost prefer the video to this one. It doesn't show Bono's power vocals. I wish there was some way to let you know which specific versions to listen to for U2. It's particularly important for their songs.... That said, non-hardcore fans love this song and a few others from their Joshua Tree album while hardcore U2 fans generally don't rate Joshua Tree up there as their best (me included). This is a band that reinvented themselves over and over again. You must hear something from Achtung Baby, or better yet, ZooTV. It was dark, atmospheric, industrial in places, and electronicy-dancey in parts. Their best as far as I'm concerned. Consider Viewing one of the alternate versions of One videos next - that will pull in some fans of theirs, guaranteed! Then, you can go down the rabbit hole. It's very deep as they've been together since they were kids, and are still going strong.

This BBC performance is probably my least favorite videos of this song, live. Some FAR SUPERIOR live performances of With Or Without You, in no particular order: 1, Rattle & Hum: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKOxpZeFjJJ5aaMsi=dowpIGDYixFBghfY 2. Elevation Tour, Boston 2001: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYrIaXqChbqJqa8si=sQ9OU9nzrjLeaSc4 3. Sphere, Las Vegas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmaVXoqcaLeKfaMsi=ZFT2j5q56cphH004

Agree! Definitely my least favorite of this one, too. I bet you and I would be on the same page about which live/videos of U2 songs for Shawn to do. My vote next is for something from Achtung Baby, or jump right into something Zoo with Mr. MacPhisto? Too soon? :D Would have loved to see the one from Boston, to be honest. Just saw the one in Vegas in person in December. They were great (big surprise lol!)

@@lauraallen55 Ya, there are so many paths to go down next. I'f he does a few more, I would want him to go from like classic JT I Still Haven't Found... then after that, The Fly. So he can experience that jarring transformation

@@lauraallen55 I went to several of the Sphere shows. I was a bit surprised how good his voice was. There have been MANY amazing Bono performances in the 2000s and beyond that surpass the 80s, in vocal strength, nuance, storytelling, and emotion, but there were also performances like this BBC one, where it made me question if he still has it night to night... I saw 6 shows, HE DOES. a little less consistent, and slightly less movement but he does

If we want to go into transitions, maybe start with something from each album up to AB, like An Cat Dubh or something from Boy, Gloria from October, and so on. I'm the wrong one to ask, probably because I would choose at least 2-3 from each album, and not necessarily the radio hits. Probably not the radio hits for the most part in fact.:p@@MBeano

Yes, the power is different but still there. He doesn't have the huge sound like with the 80s and some 90s fare, but he always has had more than just power. He has the expression and passion that gives his performances the emotion their biggest fan are here for. He had to give up smoking finally for the sake of his voice. He also flew out of the desert in between days while they were at the Sphere.@@MBeano
