If you could only have one reverb this would be it. This is THE REVERB. This is why you see these one SSL's everywhere.

Thanks for this! Are you liking the UA model more than relab’s or is it splitting hairs?

Never compared them side-by-side. There are things I like about both, but this feels more like the real thing.

Michael White Thanks for replying Michael. Great content here.

I've done tests between the UAD, relab, and native instruments. The relab lacks harmonic content and for some reason it gets lost in the mix a bit. Before the UAD came out I'd add the sonnox inflator to give it a bit of presence.

Fantastic, Mike - thanks for this very helpful video. You make all the intricacies of this complex reverb so much easier to understand. And, making it sound fantastic, of course! Definitely looking forward to your video working with the 480L and vocals! I always find vocal reverbs challenging.

Sounds killer. If only I got a UA Interface! What I'm trying to figure out is If I could get a UA interface(maybe a smaller one) down the road, but slave it to my Antelope so I can still use the converters and I/O from my Orion 32+ but use UA Plugins? I would have loved to get a UA interface, but I needed more I/O at the moment and couldn't justify the price for just 8 or 16 Channels, plus I actually prefer the Antelope's D/A, but the I/O was the main reason.

James Cassidy if you just want to use the UAD plugins for mixing and not for tracking it would be a better option to get a Satellite or PCI-card. You'll get more processing power for the money that way. They have a great deal on them right now with additional plugins included which themselves are worth the price of an Octo in my opinion.

@@henrikpetersson3463 Wow, I thought you had to actually buy one of thier interfaces. So really hey, I could just get a satellite thing, are you positve?

@@underpressureman Yes. I first bought an Octo PCIe card, and then about a year later bought an Apollo. Was able to use all my plug-ins with just the Octo.

Do you mind elaborating how this makes sense in 2021? I mean this is dated technology from the late 80s that just didn't have the ability to sound as good as analog gear or new digital gear so it's somewhat in the middle .or is it using some sort of magic? In other words aside the fact that this is a staple in Studios from the olden and golden days is this not something that can easily be beat? Of course it sounds good and the layout is quite powerful but I'm just referring to the sound,in all honesty. What are your feelings on this.

I would not use this as the centerpiece of all my reverb work if that is what you are asking, but it does have regular use in my sessions when I am going for a particular sound. To me, it has a "sound", as does the SP2016, the AMS Reverb, EMT150, Lexicon 224. I think you still hear a lot of these textures in modern production work even though it may not be so obvious.
