I, along with Peter Fuglem, were Peter's first graduate students in Forestry at U of A in 1977 working in the area of forest fire management and behaviour. I could not have asked for a better Master's supervisor. Peter was very supportive, encouraging, and knowledgable. We spent special time together in Kananaskis while I was conducting my field research. Those were special times of sharing our ideas as we walked up a mountain side to check out fire scarred trees.Thank you Barb for putting together this video. It touched my heart deeply to see him out doing what he loved. My condolences to you and the rest of the family.

I am truly honored to have worked with/for Dr. Pete Murphy. I learned so much about forestry and forest history - even learned a few scientific names.

I first met Dr. Peter Murphy in 1979 as an M.Sc. Grad Student in Forest Science at the U of A and am proud to say that I was one of his students. He was a great mentor and an inspiration to the practice of forestry and forest ecology in Alberta.

He was one of my favorite profs. His book on the history of Alberta forest fires was excellent. His little side stories of real-life experiences would liven up any class, even when told quietly. When you'd ask him a question that involved some opinion, he'd start with, "Well, if I had my druthers...."

And always with a little chuckle too. He had a way of leading us from asking one question to another and another. A gifted teacher and learner.

An exceptionally nice guy and a great presence in forestry, and in history. I was lucky to have met and worked with him.
