It's also their roots. They grew up between the immigrants listening to reggea and Indian music. The fact that they called themselves UB40 is referring to the unemployment benefit form you have to fill in to get the benefit, it says it all about these guys. They bypassed the system in an epic way you guys. Deep deep respect.

Iam in my seventies and have rediscovered UB 40 music play it every day and try to song along. Put the CD on when the wife goes out shopping. So I can have it up loud. Even my dog loves it help to plug in the CD player. Sets me up for the day. Hope my neighbours like it.
