Congratulations to this felicitous performance of Beethoven's Ninth ! Overall a very persuasive interpretation, the first two sentences very dense and rhythmically precice, without any dragging. The second movement sounded the very best and most perfect imho, special kudos to the timpanist. The tempi of the two themes in the adagio-andante movement were also very convincingly selected, a minor quibble here only concerns the slight intonation insecurities of the horn player, but, boy, this solo is really very hard to play. And maybe he was also a little bit nervous. The choir in the last movement was also very well trained, I especially liked the double-fugue part, that long high a on "ganzen Welt" by the sopranos was particularly astonishing, strong and powerful, but without any trace of screaching. Mrs. Howe managed the high notes in the extremely difficult part of her last solo with astonishing ease and Mr. Renner-Wallace's german diction was impressively perfect. The entire solo quartet was very good in delivering these demanding parts. I really enjoyed the whole experience. Kind regards from a Beethoven-aficionado from Germany !
