Interesting that would come to your mind . . . I'm a bit older, and when I was a kid, late night TV (still on an antenna) on weekends ran old B&W movies. I would watch them with my dad. The horror genre of the 30's and 40's (Frankenstein, Dracula, and the like), would use the fugue in d minor to set the tone.
