if all drivers get together, uber will be forced to raise prices and to do what ever the driver ask for. a union will change everything. without us, this company will never exist.

I drove a cab for 24 years, I have calculated that the company I drove for during that time had to go through more than 30,000 drivers just to find one driver like me to drive for them for 24 years. It's just a matter of time these Rideshare companies are going to disappear because not only are they burning through money trying to gain a greater market share but they're also burning through a lot of drivers to service their customers. Funny thing is most of the people that I have known to drive for Uber lasted Less Than 3 months. Before I retire from the cab business about a year ago I ran across a cab driver colleague at the cab company and she told me she had been driving for Uber for 2 years and that in the beginning she was doing really good but now Uber is screwing her out of a livelihood that's why she's back driving a cab. I have also met some cab drivers that also drive for Uber but only during surge pricing if that still exist. As for me I'm out of the vehicle for hire business it has gotten too crowded and I got tired of making $2 an hour

Let me ask you one question Cihan, And I want you to be really Honest with me... At this point, lots of people cannot protest as they require this money to survive...A problem bcz as time goes on the fares will get cheaper (Pool) til Self-driving cars replace them... The only real way to protest is for Drivers to Unite and create their own platform... My question to you is: Would you do a go fund me account and generate let's say 300K from drivers to start your own platform? Let's say you don't want this responsibility, would you fund someone else who does want to do it 200$ in this Go fund account?

Uber offers low rates because the company intends to get rid of its drivers by implementing self driving vehicles. They don't care about the drivers period. I looked at my earnings summary for 2017 and I grossed 41k and Uber took 19k leaving with a net of 22k. After expenses my accountant said I broke out even. The government actually gave me back money because I lost money.

The crazy thing about Uber rides is that it's all smoke & mirrors. Now that Travis has killed the conventional taxi industry with low, rates & better service,he is going to ruin all the drivers with shit rates,Uber Pool, and a lower class of passengers. Essentially, Uber has replaced taxi cabs & Travis doesn't give a shit, because he wants to cut us out of the equation with autonomous cars. Also,Uber is pissing money in advertising, corporate salaries, office overhead (Greenlight Hubs),and Uber Pool trips. Uber lost billions last quarter (2016). The venture capitalists investors, are dumping funds into Uber in the hopes of an eventual return (profit),once the cars go driverless. Essentially these Uber rides that everyone loves, are subsidized!!!! Just like subsidized housing,is funded by the taxpayers. It's a genius scam by Travis, while he pocketed the first $7 billion for himself. Now all the competition is rolling out & Travis is self-destructing with all his negative media coverage. The golden days of ride sharing are long gone.

I think this is 100% Ubers fault. This has absolutely nothing to do with a new start up company or new market. Uber is a company that began deliberately lying to people on Day one. They have been misleading drivers about earnings constantly. They stated that lower fares would earn drivers more. They set weekend pay scales, knowing drivers cant reach them. Even now they're lying about Uber Pool earnings. He claims they had to lower rates due to competition. In many mid size and smaller markets, Uber was the only ride share option in town. Lyft just came to Iowa a month ago. Uber has been the only option since 2013. They still lowered the rates significantly with zero competition. Uber is a super successful company. The reason people are hurting is because of all the dishonesty.

Uber screwed everyone. The distance that you used to pay 130$ for regular taxi, uber drivers only get 35$. It get more interesting when you'll hear this second part. The maintenance of taxi is not done by the driver but the maintenance of uber is done by driver and on the top of that the driver has to offer bottled water, gums/mints, phone charger, etc etc to the passenger. I say, fuck uber.

mr gooseman Medellin is owned by people who have big bucks. A Medellin plate costs like a million $. The owner of that Medellin charge taxi drivers a fix fee for 8 hour shift in 24 hour 3 drivers use that same Medellin and owner makes like 1400 to 1600$ a day, owner also take care of any repairs or fixtures on that Medellin. For the driver he pays a fix amount and still end up taking home 300 to 800$ a day and he doesn't have to do repairs and fixtures to the car. The taxi drivers coming to your shop complain because uber have destroyed their business plus uber has forced it's drivers to work literally for $5/hr (after taking out all expenses, repairs, devaluation of car). So basically few people in higher positions in Uber's Silicon Valley office benefits from all this. Thats how corporates work. Rich get richer, poor gets poorer. I have done my research which is why I posted that comment.

I know several Black drivers who are leaving the country because of this. I've noticed uber doesnt stick to a certain percentage with my rides. I bought a brand new car 4 days ago and I'm glad I took it back. Putting all those miles on a 2k18 screws your credit with all those miles which puts you under water. I put 12800 miles on a rental in 8 weeks of ubering. Insane.

I got a pickup request 10 miles away with a 'Pickup Premium Possible' alert. I accepted just to see the payout fare (I was curious!). Picked up my passengers, took them 1 mile to a bar. 11 miles total and I actually left a hot zone for this ride. Rider was charged $7.48, I made $3.34 while Uber made $4.14 on that ride. How is this fair? How are these guys still in business? Misleading app tactics and dangerous passengers makes this a total loser situation for the driver. If time is not of value to you, keep driving for Uber, otherwise wash cars or wash dishes and you will actually make out better than this scam.

Bait and switch is illegal, what the driver did to accommodate the UBER BLACK requirements was not. That's just Business Law 101. When a party is damaged by bait and switch, the culpability is on the perpetrator, not the damaged party. It's not a matter of both being at fault. This CEO is a jerk, he runs the business like a jerk, and this is the type of guy who couldn't keep a business of his own afloat, but is appointed by others who have no business experience outside of working for others for wages. This example is irrefutable evidence of my claim, that UBER is run by chimpanzees.

That's why when I had the chance I run away from uber and went back to my job ( before I couldn't because I was injured )... Not lying, but since I went back to my job, I started to see a change in my life: have some savings, drive only the necessary to and from my job ( 40 miles round trip )..my car is not dirty, not my seats or my floor mats...don't deal with stupid riders...don't go through all the daily stress from the daily traffic here in LA.. I am building a pension towards retirement...every pennie I spend on tools, work clothes, miles on my car, Union dues, phone bill, etc, I can actually put them as expenses and be able to get a nice tax refund check next year ( approx $8000)...not like with uber that drivers need to pay back to the IRS..I got complete dental and medical benefits...etc..etc.. Big difference now that I am working in my normal job.. With uber, is always a loose loose situation..

Great perspective , I drive 09 Mercedes Benz GL for XL . And I have been thinking about getting a new hybrid XL ; however the question I asked myself is what if ? What if Uber drops rates again , or what if Uber goes out of Business ? it is very disappointing and depressing for many of my fellow driver's who made such a bold and big business decisions and found themselves in debt for obvious reasons. With that being said , I don't think a CEO of any company would talk to his employee this way ; especially in public . He is comfortably sandwiched by two beautiful ladies whiles yelling at a poor driver for voicing out a concern shared by many thousands of Uber driver's in America including myself. Well , I would let somebody else to be the judge.

But seriously, Randy. Here's an update on Boston & Massachusetts. As I've told you before, Rhode Island cut rates by 33% in Rhode Island(around 18 months ago). Then Providence became oversaturated with drivers. Rates were the same in both R.I. & Ma. ($1.20 mile/$.20 min /$5.00 min fare/$5.00 cancel fee). Last Summer Massachusetts split the rates in to three sectors (West/Central/Cape Cod) with the West being lowest & Cape being highest (Cape Cod is seasonal tourist/drunk trap for mostly rich Bostonians/foreigners). Then came Uber Pool (only in Boston),then entire Northeastern section of Ma. ,and now even in the poorer and rural areas of Ma. (I live in these parts(50 miles South of Boston, 15 miles East of Providence, and 10 miles North of Newport,R.I. (Summer tourists),and 60 miles West of Cape Cod. Even though Pool is here now, it's unlikely & rare to receive multiple fares within one trip. Uber has been in Boston around 4 years & Providence,R.I. around 4 ,but has just flourished and become mainstream in South Eastern Ma. within the past year. Also the entire state has become oversaturated with drivers. May makes three years for me & I'm done. The clientele is becoming ghetto, and my pay has taken a dive. I made about $70,000 the first year but would be lucky to make half that now. My 2014 Hyundai Accent (wich I bought 5 months before discovering Uber),now has 115,000 miles & started burning oil at 110,000. The rings are shot from driving heavy (especially in Boston/Providence where they drive like most metro areas). I still owe 34 months on my loan.(lol). I'm going back into commercial trucking & I think I have my first job offer. I'll do Uber maybe one or two days a week for awhile, just until I'm sure the truck gig works out & then it's a wrap for rideshare. I'm going to miss the freedom of scheduling & the social interactions, but will not miss the traffic, the drunks, the abuse on my car,or Lord Travis. (You are exactly right. Travis is a rich A-hole ,but the beauty of America is we can chose our careers and our destiny,at will.) I honestly didn't expect to last this long (3 years). Peace out,Randy.

First let me say I am not taking the side of Travis or the driver. BUT, this is a business. and as Uber drivers or drivers of ANY rideshare company, you are basically a franchise. You sign up for whatever the parent company does. Yes dropping fairs and cutting into driver pay is not a good business model but frankly you can get off the platform or supplement the platform with others or even your own. Unlike most franchises, you are not forced to be exclusive to Uber. So don't be. If you get a business loan, that is all on you. Mark Cuban says small business owners are foolish to get large loans to start or grow their business. So don't do it.

DRIVER made a huge mistake taking that big of a risk on a new company. Comes with the territory in buisness. Uber was design to attract customers and drivers quickly via "work for yourself" media and cheap fares. All while not owning a single vehicle putting the burden on the drivers. the drivers are UBER but with no ability to connect and complain to uber things will likely work out in their favor. they want to fund other buisnesses so the drivers will be assed out on this for a while.

I don't have a problem with what Travis did. If somebody starts giving you shit, you have the right to give them shit back. The driver escalated and Travis followed. On another it is not too smart to go all in on Uber or other ride sharing. Uber loses Billions of dollars every year!!! google it,. If they don't figure out how to make money soon their investors will dry up.

I agree with you wholeheartedly but I do not feel Travis had any form of remorse for the little guy. Just like pyramid schemes are illegal because the bottom guys get screwed. He literally was the top guy taking advantage of the bottom guy with no remorse, by doing what he did. He had no right to bad mouth any one at the bottom while hes making the money hes making off the tons of guys that invested anywhere from a few thousand dollars, to the 90 thousand this guy invested.

Daniel Damn You're responsible for your OWN actions. Nobody forced this guy to drop 90K on a car and mismanage his finances. He should have worked 2 jobs like most people instead of relying on one source of income. That's on him, NOT Uber.

That driver pretty much had the opportunity so many of us would like to have, and what Randy has been saying about Uber for some time now. Part of the problem is Uber is one of the worst examples of corporate America's "growth at all cost" mantra that can be self defeating. Imagine if Uber hadn't slashed their rates and had brought on new drivers at the same pace as growth of demand? They'd probably be making 3 billion a year rather that losing 3 billion a quarter. They'd have a big pool of veteran, experienced drivers who believe in the company and enjoy driving for it. They'd have an equally loyal customer base and a higher quality of customer as well which also bring less problems and advertise the company for them through word of mouth. We all knew it, and Randy earlier than most as he's been at this a while, but this was Travis showing his true colors. Not only does he not give a crap for the drivers who built his company, I don't think he has the emotional maturity and business vision to lead it successfully anymore. I've joked for some time now that the plan is to "replace us with robots". Which it clearly is or they'd be acting differently. But I don't think they're going to make it. I think full driverless cars are a bit further off than some think and Uber hopes (and I'm a Tesla Model 3 reservation holder so I hope for it!) Needless to say I won't be investing any money in Uber, and increasingly less time as the rates don't pencil. It's too bad as it's still a great idea, a lot of fun to do, and should have been so much more than what it is devolving into.

Two smart comments: Tagem Bagem 2 months ago tuan nguyen 100% correct! If your counting on Uber to be your main income and to sustain your family your a fucking loser like Randy here Tagem Bagem 2 months ago Remy Martin yeah but Uber is not a real job. Welcome to capitalism, the fittest will survive, and the weak will perish. Always the blame game "You! Yes you, made me bankrupt!" No! Go to school learn a real job cuz driving ain't, it may be a supplemental income but after 2010 it's not anymore. Plain and simple. And actually Kevin is not even half responsible, ZERO responsible, nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head, AND in the terms of service it clearly states "RATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANYTIME WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE!" Case closed, nobody should put all their eggs into one basket, nobody! Reality hurts, doesn't it?! Then go do something about it, start your own car sharing, open a bakery, anything. If was able to do it, anyone else can too. I just hope this motivates those who are willing to work hard and get ahead in life.

I agree with u 100%. It's his fault for investing allot of $ into a new business. But also he was told at the time look at all the money u can make and at that time black cars were making over 100k a year in sf easy. But then Uber changed rates and things went down hill. Uber x came out and most black users switched to Uber x

it would be a 50/50 blame if travis didn't intend on screwing the drivers. But he absolutely did. It was basically a pre-planned scam from the start. A driver got tricked, because he was foolish. Does part of the fault go to him for being stupid? Yes, absolutely, but only like 30%, not 50.

It's the driver's fault. Read through the terms and conditions of the platform you intend to use. Uber as a company shouldn't be responsible for the driver's ignorance. Uber is a company who's objective is to profit. If they can decrease their bottom and/or top line to have a greater profit they are going to do so.

I started a carpool for my 40 mile commute to the city in 1998. Me and 3 other people from University have a 4x4 for winter and Lincoln town car for better weather months. Lincoln get 26mpg and truck gets 18 mpg. We all share the truck on different weekends for towing a camper or boat and the Lincoln for long road trips. We each drive 1 week a month. The annual cost is about $2400@ to make payment, maintain, insure and fuel. Uber reminds me of hitchhiking and hoping not to be murdered.

last year I bought a vehicle. The market here wasnt saturated with drivers yet. So it payed well! $5000.00 vehicle could've been payed off in a few months. ride request were none stop 24/7 I know I tried different hours. I've worked them all. and the slow times here last year, still had more business than the average day at the commercial company I came from. ..FYI If you stay in debt..or the more you owe the company/companies harder youll work harder, work longer, because your goals are higher...therefore the company make more off you end goal is hire. In bookings. by the end of your shift.

Someone posted a link to an interview with the driver. Basically, he said he's upset because of all the lowly X's and others who took all his poor Black business away. Boo Hoo. Cry me a river. He spent more money on a car I pay for a YEAR in rent, in a start up with no history and is upset. Also, he said he's been driving since 2010? If he's that upset, why didn't he quit? He's been driving 17 years people. In all that time, he made no money? Somethings fishy here I think.

If he's gonna talk about taking responsibility he should start by having a better support department for drivers. A lot of times we have to wait for days or weeks before an issue gets resolved. Right now I have not gone out driving for a week because on my earnings I'm on negative because of a $200 charge on my fuel card that I did not make, I already reported it as fraud but they have not done anything. Where's Lyft? Where's Tryde? Right now Houston is a Monopoly with just Uber here. I used to say nice things about Uber but now, ask me what I think about Uber.
