I appreciate your showing troubleshooting steps without edit. Capturing the resolution of each issue, as presented in real time, increases the value of your production. Many videos can display steps A-Z without a hitch (with edits) but by including the speed bumps encountered, the reality score of your work is instantly increased. Very well done, keep up the good work.

Ditto about showing troubleshooting. Thanks for accurately describing masquerading too.

Unifi is not specifically a "Cloud" based system. It is actually a "Software Defined Network" system that utilizes a "Controller" that centrally provisions other Unifi devices on a network. The Controller can be either Cloud Based or Locally on the network. From a centralized or remote management point of view, the Unifi system is excellent. From an ISP or locally (physically) managed point of view, the Edge line is also excellent. The UNMS system on the Edge platform does give it some remote management capabilities, though limited. If you like to tinker and get into the weeds, then the Edge system is for you. If you like to Set it and Forget it, then Unifi is your answer.

Dude this video would have been 3 min if you had done the GUI wizard out of the box like you are supposed to. Why would start from the CLI??? You made this 100x harder than it needed to be
@egm76714 жыл бұрын
CLI plus the hiccups during the configuration (and the troubleshooting) made the video more informative and educational especially to a novice. It actually helped a lot of "beginners" understand part of the routing and transport process.

I will be upgrading my ER-X to this. I found it funny to view this, because I had the exact same problems as you when first setting up the ER-X.. And I'm not a networking guy, so I had some issues. I can recommend all not so advanced users, to use the wizard for setup.

Nice to see a power cord instead of a power brick.

Thank you so much for this video!!!!!! I was trying to configure this router for a friend and was banging my head against the wall. The setup was a little different from what I'm used to (Cisco, Sonicwall, Asus) I had pretty much everything set but still had issues. The router works great and am very impressed.

Awesome to find current information most is 2 + years old. The screws have plastic inserts for drywall (I hate them). Trying to decide between an Edge router and the Unifi and wanted current information.

How does this router deal with multiple ISPs for wan inputs?

running the wizard would have given you the default firewall and network. No need to go into the cli at all with that router

Is this router too much for a beginner? I am trying to set up a home network. I have gig speed but want to hardwire more of my stuff. Thanks great video.
@kevinbrown41194 жыл бұрын
Hi. He would not have had those issues if he used the Wizard. I've been watching Edge Router videos for a couple of weeks now and everyone used the Wizard to do the set up. It should be fine for a beginner. Best of luck.

I recommend it. Unless you plan to do full QoS, DPI on full gigabit Internet speed, you can opt for cheaper EdgeRouter X that has built in switch.

I did an upgrade to 1.10.11.5274269. When I log in to CLI, I get "Boot image can be upgraded to version e50_002_4c817. Will it upgrade the router to the newest 2.0.8 ? I would not want to upgrade because of the loss of speed. Any suggestions? What is the diff boot image and firmware , I thought they are the same ?
@SLAiNTRAX4 жыл бұрын
It only updates the boot image to 1.10.11. Also there is no noticable speed loss from 1.10.x to 2.0.x with my gigabit line.

You would have saved time by just pluging your computer in eth0 setting the ip statically on your nic on you pc and going to the default address of router and doing the wizard called wan+2lan2 everything would be done for you then connect modem to eth0 and switch to eth1 done

Why concern yourself with getting true gigabit speeds from the router CPU when you're getting under 100Mbit down and 30 up Internet speeds? Obviously you want your home network machines to do file xfers as fast as possible but I thought the point of getting this "edge" edgerouter was for gigabit Internet? And will it actually handle true gigabit Internet, say 900Mbit down/890Mbit up?
@NerdOnTheStreet3 жыл бұрын
Did you even watch the entire video? The speed test at 32:10 clearly shows that I broke 925 Mbps, much higher than I was getting with my previous router. That was the point.

So essentially all I learned from this was to never get charter internet 900mbps down and 33 mbps up that's shady. I pay $80 a month for verizon fios gigabit symmetric lol
@NerdOnTheStreet4 жыл бұрын
It's unfortunate, but I wouldn't call it "shady." There's a difference between a symmetrical fiber-optic connection and an asymmetrical coaxial connection. The time has to be divided on the coaxial line somehow, and since most residences are content consumers and not producers, Charter (and other cable providers like Comcast) allocate more time to download than upload. It's a pretty well-known phenomenon, and will hopefully be less of an issue with DOCSIS 4.0 on cable lines along with newer fiber lines. If you're in St. Louis and you're not downtown, AT&T is your only other option and its speeds are not competitive.
@nghtcaptn94614 жыл бұрын
@@NerdOnTheStreet The shady comment also stems from what I've heard about Charter's customer service. I don't have charter where I live in Northern Virginia but I am fortunate enough two options for internet where I live Cox or Fios. Fios is a no brainer as I'm paying the same amount for a symmetrical connection where as charter does asymterical. Especially that low of a speed - not even 100mbps upload? 33mbps for 80 bucks a month is ridiculous. If it was 2009 I would understand but it's 2020 so why are companies still slow to offer symmetrical speeds. Both cox and verizon had upgraded their equipment in my neighborhood back in 2006 and then launched fios in the neighborhood in late 2009 according to my neighbor's (i've only lived here for 3 years now) so it's not like the infrastructure is not there. Honestly it's always been a pet peeve of mine with isp's since I was a kid.
