6E (6GHz) isn't inherently any faster than 6 (5GHz) if used with the same settings. You can achieve the same speeds with 160MHz bandwidth mode on 5GHz. 6E (6GHz) just allows for many more non-overlapping channels, and may be cleaner airspace as well. That will prove most valuable in extremely dense, bandwidth intensive environments, like high-performance mesh nodes, sports stadiums, music festivals, airport concourses, etc.
@NavinF Жыл бұрын
In practice it's very difficult to keep a 160MHz channel alive without DFS forcing channel changes. Many wifi 5 clients don't even support 160MHz so you still have to upgrade to wifi 6E to get "up to 2400mbps" which is ~1.6gbps in practice as the video shows.
@mainelyhobbies Жыл бұрын
I do live about 5 miles from a military base, and their aircraft go over the house at low heights a few timea a day. That DFS is a possibility. I have to be careful flying my drone because I am so close to the 5 mile ring.

Nice installation, but I don't understand this test. You have a PC connected to 10GB. Why not run an Iperf3 server on that PC and then do an internal speedtest on your S22 to test the throughput of the UI6 Enterpise. Can't you organize this?

It would be another story if I was maxing out my download speed in a speed test.

My 2x2 samsung s22 ultra should have a theoretical max of 2400 megabits with real world speeds factoring overhead of 2200 megabits but everywhere I see testing with the galaxy phones is more like 1800 max across other brand 6E routers . I've got this 6E AP as well. I used iperf3 to test between a (wired) desktop system and a (wireless) laptop. I have a 2.5GbE POE switch connected to an SFP28 switch which connects to my desktop. I had to upgrade the wlan card in my laptop, upgrade to a later version of Windows10, and fight with Intel's broken versions to get the 6E connected. Maximum ten-thread iperf3 download (desktop->laptop) numbers are about 1.5Gbps. I see you mentioned similarly. Perhaps this is a limit for this AP? Sadly none of the Macs can hope to touch Wifi6, nevermind 6E, so I'd have to do a distributed test with a bunch of phones. Sorry, haven't done that yet. Single-threaded iperf3 numbers were considerably lower, but of course that could be the result of all kinds of issues. My recollection was that they were more like1/3/-1/2 of that rate. Reach is good. Line of sight across the house (10-12 meters?) is good for about 1Gbps The AP idle power is a tad over 11W. It seems to save power by reducing broadcast power in 6E. In practice, this means that the S/N will be lower at idle, and your PC will recommend connecting to the 5Ghz or 2.5Ghz. I advise against this -- I get far better download speeds everywhere in my house from 6 than 5. (That said, I haven't done much in the way of upload testing.) Even a few feet away the laptop doesn't give 6E full bars (this might also be because the antennas aren't optimized for 6E? -- this isn't a 6E native device!). In use, power goes up to 15W, and under load I've seen it hit 19W. The back of this unit is hot. It's small, heavy, and when used, quite warm, and not something I'd want to hold onto. I think I measured it around 50C or so. It won't burn your wall, but it's warm for sure.

My setup which lasted all of two days, gave me nice numbers with my phone laying right under the AP, but one room over speeds dropped to half, up a flight of stairs but still the equivalent of one room over and I was lucky to have a connection. This was with a Unifi6 Pro AP, and a Unifi6 In Wall. Same house with 2 eero 6 Pros and I have full bar coverage over the whole house. I can swap out or add an AP with ease as new tech comes out and they don't seem to offer any 10 gigabit switches for my wired desktops. Eero also doesn't advertise their products well - you go to their website and you can't even see a picture of the ports and back of the APs and they don't use common terminology.. like is the eero pro 6E even 4x4 like the unifi? @mainelyhobbies2 жыл бұрын
@@Richard_GIS yeah im losing speed somewhere. Theoretical is 2.4 and actual should be I think 2.1. Im not up to play with it too much because my house depends on it. If it was a separate setup outside my main network I would get into it more.

You said wifi 6 AP. Well your S22 Ultra's 6E chip doesn't mean anything if the AP doesn't have 6Ghz. Just confused me why you add the 6E in the title without 6Ghz AP. Also, speed test is external and depending on your available bandwidth then It could fluctuate. I would just do the iperf3 test through the wifi to a LAN connection in the future as a minimum. Thanks for sharing though 🙂
@mainelyhobbies2 жыл бұрын
The model is called "wifi6 enterprise" it is a wifi 6E AP with the 6.0ghz band. Iperf3 nets the same results although more solid. The hard wired speed is 4x what the AP can do. Speedtest is probably more real world where 99% of the traffic is external.

@cocosloan3748 i did see the tplink video. If it was any other brand Id be more enthusiastic, but every wireless TP link product I've owned as well as seen when I do on-site home and small business IT work has been garbage for reliability. I just won't own anything of theirs in the near future. Ill just wait it out for the slower unifi version lol

all these stress testing are for bragging rights. not for practical application imho. When number of users goes up, with multiple SSID/APs around the area all these testings seems pointless

I kept my other 6 APs on throughout my home with 70 wifi devices attached. I dont have neighbors close enough to matter. There was only one 6ghz capable device in my home at the time and the AP had a nest camera or 2 connected during testing on the other bands. It is pretty real world. Its in my living room now for a week and Im getting the same results.
@BubbleMatrix822 жыл бұрын
These tests are pointless as part of the speedtest slows down due to packet loss upstream which causes retries and packet processing per second upstream which your ISP hand-off likely cannot actually handle on a single thread (which speed tests generally are). So without factoring in ISP contributions to the overhead and the hardware's pps ability (example: a Dream Router cannot pps more than 700Mbps) this test does not control for all the variables to get a clean test.

So what you're saying is its a real world speed test haha

If you are measuring wifi speeds and you start with an internet speed test that's an immediate red flag.
@mainelyhobbies2 жыл бұрын
I would say the same thing in most cases except I have a 5+ gigabit internet connection, and it NEVER tests even close to below 2.5 gigabits when hard wired. I have a follow-up video showing how inaccurate wifiman is on the upload speed and even using iperf3 it was not consistently accurate. A wifi internet speed test when your connection can double what the 2.5 gigabit port on the access point can handle should not be considered a red flag. Its still a useful data point. You might find my newer video more useful where I put the AP in place, left it for a week without restarting it, and had many devices attached when testing various distances from the AP.
@kwinzman2 жыл бұрын
@@mainelyhobbies I still think it's plain unnecessary complexity. You're introducing variables that you have no control over at the 3rd party testing server and your ISP and all routers between you and the test server. Yes, your 5+ Gbit internet connection should never bottleneck. But why take the risk? If you're testing the WiFi test the WiFi and not the WiFi and something else at the same time. Thanks for the followup though! I appreciate it!

I have 3 others of various other brands and they all run hot. I figured it was a RJ45 tranceiver thing. Same for the "not compatible with most other brands" usually on FS.com or other places you buy tranceivers you have to specify brand. I can get 9.4 gigabits sustained using them desktop to desktop so when you get it right, they do work.
