Sengoku era Japan was by far the setting I wanted to play in most. It wasn't even close. However, what I absolutely didn't want was for Ubi to comb through history, desperately looking for a black character so that they could virtue signal and push DEI on us. And that's assuming that that history is even correct. I wanted to play a Japanese samurai trying to navigate the brutal Civil War and find a lord to serve that my character thought was good for the future of Japan. If my character used stealthy, unconventional tactics to route my lords enemies and give him an edge, even better. That's not what I'm going to get though. There is a very good chance I won't be playing Shadows and it's a crying shame. It could have been so good.

If Yasuke never existed in the game, and it was always just the female ninja (i really dont know how to spell her name) the games perception would have been leagues more positive. You'd still have people skeptical bc "derrrr woman" but if it came out and was actually well written and lacked all the modern culture bullshit, people would have been pleasantly surprised and would have promoted the game touting the "comeback of Ubisoft." They would have, however small, gained some faith and trust back in some players. It would have been that first stepping stone to brighter future for Assassins Creed and Ubisoft as a whole. Hell, a ninja makes more sense for the franchise than a Samurai ever did. Just fumble after fumble and they make it so hard to feel bad for them.

Ok so hear me out: We don't know what will happen during the story where they could for example explain the existence of yasuke as an samurai by an hack on the animus. Because for all people who forgott about it: assassins creed is still about being in an machine which let's you experience the life of others based on the DNA or something. So they could explain a lot of things this way and also be self ironic by pointing out the watermelon topic and stuff. By doing so they also would teach the player about existing facts and therefore show historical correct information. Anyways to keep it real, we all probably know that ubisoft is not that creativ anymore for a long time now. About the yasuke as a main character and also not beeing any assassins like they are (AGAIN) missing out the best opportunity to revive the AC franchrise. The best solution imo would have been to give naoe and yasuke the same basic skillset as an assassin. Starting from there they could have given naoe the possability to skill more to the shinoby style and yasuke towards the samurai style. Then they could have integrated for example reasonable conditions such as if yasuke is wearing heavy armor takes away his ability to do advanced parkour. From there they would have much more options to develop the assassin feeling, ket the player dive more into the role and improve "quality of life" experience. I think you get my point. But the way it is now playing either of the two characters doesn't look like it is an rewarding experience. By all they're doing it just seems like they are developing and improving it to worse. A game and setting with prob the highest potential, almost every fan was waiting for, just made to show what they could have done and missed. Do you guys think they will learn one day, or will they stay this commercially orientated for the rest of our beeings? I just feel sorry for the devs who could have created such a master peace but are bonded to decisions made by the management.

Everyone spouting and going off how Yasuke was such a legendary samurai and then backpedal when asked to show ANY proof, is cause they can't. This dude has about 5-6 lines written about him in actual historical documents in the span of about 4 pages. They only confirmed things about him: He came with a spanish person's troupe, Nabunaga asked them to leave him there. He was given lodgings to stay at. After Nobunaga's death, he vanished. That is it.

I'm Japanese and tbh, my first thought was "too late to lose me as a customer... I walked away after the disaster that was Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It literally took modders on PC to make that game a decent tactical shooter. And all the modders do is put in cosmetics that should've been in the game from the start, and tweak the game variables so that it operates like wildlands. Literally all they had to do from the jump was make a Wildlands 2, and instead we got ghost recon: the division pick a flower game.

I dont believe it, purely on the basis of seeing ytubers playing and Yasuke is still in the game as a main character. They wont capitulate. All they had to do, was swap Yasuke with a large samurai bloke, a straight model-swap and have a side-story where they rescue Yasuke from being executed or something and then he gets shipped off - just like he was most likely done. They could have done it in a way where you pity the guy - and have a better understanding of the slave industry. Actual historic figures were NEVER playable, but were NPCs via side-stories.

What's really surprising to to me is that they're JUST now realizing that the shinobi-stealth-assasin elements are what should be pushed forwards as the main focus for a fucking ASSASINS CREED game. Color and history of Yauske aside how did they think focusing on traditional samurai elements is in any way fitting for the basic DNA of this franchise? They didn't even do that for Ghost of Tsus... I know Ubi is stupid but holy shit.

It is true that they eat fried chicken during Chritmas. KFC's in Japan get a lot of money during this time and they even have a lot of love for a Collnel Sanders statue that I think fell into one of there rivers.

The カーネルサンダースの呪い or "Curse of the Colonel" came about when the Hanshin Tigers fans celebrating their impending pennant win threw a statue of the Colonel into a local river. As members of the team were cheered on fans resembling, those players jumped into the river. You’re partially correct about the Colonel Sanders statue. Baseball is a big deal in Japan - hear me out, I’m going places with this - and during 1985, the Hanshin Tigers got their first victory in the Japan Series. Fans held a celebration at Ebisu Bridge, with people changing the names of the players and people who looked similar jumping in the water - don’t worry, I don’t think they got hurt. However, American player Randy Bass was on the team and didn’t have a lookalike, so they found a Colonel Sanders statue and threw it in the river. I’m not joking.

In regards to fried chicken on Christmas in Japan: Yes, that is true to a degree. Christmas in Japan, while big, doesn't have the same cultural significance, and is more of a commercial holiday than a traditional one. On top of that, the notion of having a turkey in Japan is pretty slim, as it would most likely be imported and thus VERY expensive. So, during the 70s, KFC, which had branches in Japan, ran a special promotional campaign for a family deal during Christmas. It proved to be a genius move. For a pretty good bargain, Japanese families could experience a family Christmas dinner with the next best thing to a bigass juicy crispy roasted bird - a bucket of smaller juicy crispy fried birds.

Hey Man, I live in Kanagawa. Yes, the sakuras bloom at different parts of the spring based on the latitude. And yes, the fried chicken thing is real. It was started by a floundering KFC marketing campaign that convinced the Japanese that chicken is a traditional christmas meal for americans. This was such a success that they couldn't keep up with the demand, and now local convenience stores are filling out the rest.

Living in Osaka and although this is just my tiny personal survey size, not that many people I know ate Chicken last year for xmas. It IS a big marketing thing that KFC sells a Christmas bucket, so I'm sure a large percentage of people love having a bucket on 12/25, but not everyone considers it traditional. Whether its 20/80 or 60/40 do/don't, I couldn't tell you tho.
