These leeches always wanted to sell games at a higher price, so without altering the base price too much, they're going for the "Sell half the game and broken at 70$, and the other half for 70 more". Any DLC that is planned before the game comes out, or even right when the game comes out, is content that could have been worked on to be put in the game on release, but they decided not to, and instead they sold it. True DLCs are those that get made after a game releases and people love it, making a DLC in this way gives people more content for that game without the need to release a sequel.

This is seriously disturbing. I forgot about that (I bought the DLC at a discount years later). The industry is aggressively trying to increase the price of video games while at the same time not back the increase with an increase in content or quality and Ubisoft is a prime example. Gamers are the only ones who can oppose that but unfortunately most are kids who can't think about money rationally - they see cool new shiny game backed by aggressive and potentially misleading marketing and they want it, so their parents buy it. It's just how it works.

$40 worth of content is the entirety of Helldivers 2. But let's entertain Ubisoft's bullshit for a moment... I could spend over $110 USD for everything in Outlaws if I want a complete gameplay experience as the developers intended... Or I can pay $70 USD for the complete gameplay experience that the developers of Stellar Blade intended to give me with their game.

Ubisoft have been a shit show ever since they moved on from The Division. They are having to try and milk absolutely everything because of how badly Division 2 failed, which even led them to remove the huge free update that had been promised as the last update of the "free" battle pass (which obviously was included in the base game price so wasnt free) and told everyone that they had to pay $40 for it instead as they purposefully delayed it and released it literally 3 days after the battle pass ended. More or less as soon as this happened most people just noped out and the game died a quiet death, leaving Ubisoft reeling that the Division was still doing better than Division 2 and that they didnt have a "successful" live service game ripping their customers off. Now instead of their investors/shareholders taking the deserved hit for awful management and "vision" they simply pass the losses onto the players so that they can get their % back up.
@Mattfreeman898 ай бұрын
It's amazing how many companies, recently, have been crushed under the weight of horrible management. Personally found the setting utterly forgettable. Who the fuck even wanted a division 2? Why can't we get new Star wars games where you make your own character and play in a setting that doesn't take place adjacent to all the same 100 year old characters? They have a universe with limitless potential yet everything must reference the movies and original cast over and over? Just give us completely new storylines unrelated to any star wars movie and I think that's where you'll find gamers interested in spending money.

I love how they try to shift the conversation from "locking content for a game that was already in there" to "locking a single Jabba mission". "whether you pay out big or not"... that line is really something else from an ultra-rich gaming exec IMO the real reason why these games are SO EXPENSIVE on day one, is because it would be insanely foolish for them NOT to do it that way. When you have worldwide distribution basically for free, you then have maximum exposure to all of the whales of the world that will see something and buy it no matter how insane the price is, so to price low at the start would lose out on tons of that revenue. Instead they can price super high day one, and then just put it on their cheap sub which the whales are less likely to use, and then later one discount heavily to make it accessible to the more broad audiences AFTER the impatient/impulsive whales are already done spending. They will never tell you this as it could hurt their earlier sales, but just realize as a gamer that simple patience pays for itself a dozen times over... just wait, on literally everything outside of the rare cases like an MMO launch or fully multiplayer game that you plan on playing extensively with friends. Literally just pretend the new games do not exists, play the essentially endless list of amazing old titles in the meantime and get to the new stuff later. Also most of the time new games are bad and/or incomplete on launch anyway.... patches and content additions and mods continually improve on them usually for a year or two post-launch.
