It certainly didn't help, but the absolute most important thing for a game company is making fun games. Look at Nintendo. They do everything they can to make their fan's lives miserable, yet they're making more money then ever. 2:40 EXACTLY. This is what I've been saying for years. Nobody wants to spend $25 on a skin if you won't even be able to use it when the next game comes out in a year. Call of Duty has staying power. If they would stop the yearly release crap and just put out one game that gets tweaked and worked on every year instead of rushing a new one out the door every year they would see a massive increase in microtransation sales and probably less technical problems.
@SuperYtc1Ай бұрын
The fact you are defending MTX shows how brainwashed gamers have become and what a dire state the industry is in.
@WarpStarK1rbyАй бұрын
@SuperYtc1 I disagree. I think that as abysmal as the pricing has become with microtransactions, I think they absolutely have a place in the industry as a way to monetize FTP games and support devs in some cases. Not everybody has $80 to spend on a game every year. Microtransactions allow games like fortnite to keep adding endless free content year after year.

@@SuperYtc1 Optional cosmetics that in many cases can be bought with earnable in game currencies are a better version of MTXs than paid DLC for already 60$ games ever was imo. @fkweaboos2759Ай бұрын
@@WarpStarK1rby Free to play games are the reason why mtx and aaa games have gotten so fucking bad these past few years. It's just simply more profitable for a corporation to spend 8 years and 50-200 mil to develop one "good" game where people continue to play over a period of several or many years, letting the corporation make their money back and start profiting off mtx sales. Very few live service ftp games actually meet these expectations partly because the industry is so large now, there's not enough players, and there's too much competition to keep them all populated at the same time. People need games that are a single experience. You play the game, you finish it, and then you move onto another good game. The market cannot support too many ftp live service games because the supply outweighs the demand.

AAA game companies are all just falling deeper into the black holes of budget. They are all live service games, full of micro transactions, cost millions to make, then they spend millions to advertise, just to fall flat when people don't like them. Indie game companies on the other hand are absolutely thriving by making completed games and just trying to make them fun. TAKE NOTE GAME DEVS!

I wouldn't blame the devs out right. It's the higher ups in the corporate ladder pushing tight schedules and wanting the devs to add more ways to make money (micro transactions). Whereas indie devs have straight freedom to make what they want without a suit and tie breathing over their necks.

Many of these big publishers want their games to strike gold and print money, but none of them want to nurture the game until it produces the bountiful crop, they want their fix now. Ironically Destiny has been on both sides of this issue, the game would often grow steadily with successive DLCs and seasons, but in the past couple of years it has gone up and down, to the point where they were briefly selling Exotic weapons for real-world money. The sad part of it is the current gaming developer and publisher climate does not allow for any long-term growth, only the projects that have existing longevity like Destiny, CoD, etc. can afford to sink money into them and even then they are not immune to layoffs that are common across the industry.

Thing is about XDefiant is that since it was free, I and other players pretty much just played it whilst we were waiting for COD to come out rather than because we were looking for something new. The whole deal with that game is that it was supposed to scratch the same itch as COD whilst being more accessible, but it since it didn't iterate on the COD formula and only emulated what worked before it lacked any real identity or staying power.

@IAmInsideYourWalls-wm9ekАй бұрын
@@Ramsonpwndz I feel like a big reason why the game didn’t succeed though is because it tried being as close to COD as possible, genuinely my biggest impression of the game from playing it is that it felt like COD mobile. It would have been cool to have seen them try something a bit different and new with the game to separate it. The objective based game modes were a step in the right direction but not enough, something like a 3rd mode that played considerably differently to what’s popular rn would’ve been cool to see and probably had more players if they kept adding content. Another thing I felt the game lacked was identity, they incorporated all these other Ubisoft IPs into it where it really felt like it had no meaning so the game just felt really hollow ultimately. I do recommend BO6 to an extent if you’re still looking for a shooter to play, but I’d also recommend using gamepass if you’re on Xbox or PC so you can play it for cheap.
@ha-kyaa7815Ай бұрын
@@IAmInsideYourWalls-wm9ek difference is at least with CoDM (not counting the shitty meta rn) they made a unique formula for a CoD that worked. One of the biggest mistakes massive video game companies are making at the moment, is only making games that demand your FULL attention, that demand ALL of your time, and you can't walk away for anything else or you get left in the dust by everyone else, or the game itself. Games that require constant player maintenance/ effort should not be the majority of games, or you have absolutely zero time to either branch out into new titles, or zero time to do literally anything else. It also causes burnout way faster when you feel like you HAVE to play, and when you're gone for too long, everything and everyone has moved so far ahead that you have no motivation to pick it up again. Games that instantly put me off are the games with single opportunity items, like Overwatch 2 or Fortnight. I have no reason to keep playing games like that past a certain point, cause the repetitive nature doesn't feel like it will lead to anything, since the skins or emotes or whatever that I want to get, are never coming back. I like to work towards collecting everything in games that have sets of collectables, cause it feels like I'm working towards completing something. Especially games with a mastery level gained by collecting, like Trove (my second most played game ever at over 4200 hours, only beaten by minecraft due to minecraft being around for longer). Literally thousands of random bits and pieces to collect for mastery, and I know that with enough effort, I can actually obtain everything within reason (theres some things that are rewarded through contests outside of the game, but they don't count towards mastery), and the total mastery points not only have their own leaderboards, but they give you different colours of chat names for being in the top 2k of said leaderboards. But with the amount of time I have to spend on Trove, I can not possibly spend a similar amount of time and effort on another game. I genuinely have no idea what the last new-at-the-time game I purchased. Maybe Tiny Glade? Tho I've not played it just yet, since I'm busy at the moment (ironically proving my point about games demanding too much of tour life even more). I guess Powerwash Simulator kind of, but it was already out for a year or so before I bought it. Ight rant over. I'd be shocked if anyone actually read any of this tbh.
