Ultimate‘s a scam, but besides locking early access behind it, what‘s people‘s problem with Gold? 80€ has become the new standard, and 30€ for dlc ain’t bad (As long as they offer a worthwhile amount of content, which I feel like is the least of problems in Ubi games. Every samurai was a servant whitie. And being a sword bearer was an important position in literally ever martial culture, especially Japanese. And the fact he got kicked out instead of killed is why Ubisoft picked him. Yasuke appears for a year, Nobunaga dies, and then the person who killed him let's Yasuke go. I’m older now but man it was crazy in the 90’s! ALL the games were the same price (basically), they came on like a hard plastic box that you actually got to keep, and all you had to do was stick it into another box and it played perfectly. The scale and freedom is not comparable to an Assassins creed. The length of time under oda was short. with assassin's creed if I was picking first I would look for time gaps and personal strife. The worst part about all this? Yasuke wasn't even black black, he was of Spanish decent. Even better, there was a *real* black samurai before Yasuke that was an ex-slave (I forget his name right now). He was purchased by a Japanese lord because the Dutch trader mistranslated 'slave' as 'mercenary'*. By the time the issue was discovered, the trader was long gone. The ex-slave would go on to prove himself as a loyal and skilled samurai. He married, had kids and his lineage exists to this day. That last bit is important, as a major part of AssCreed is the animus; the act of using genetic memory to view the past. *Japan didn't really have slavery like the Dutch did, the closest it had at the time was a form of indented servitude for criminas. Thus, IIRC, the mistranslation was something like 'disgraced/captured individual'. The lord interpreted that as the slave being from a lord who was defeated/killed and was now without a lord to serve (not an unusual situation for a samurai). Thus the lord purchased the contract, believing it a mercenary contract.

Some of the highlight of this incident are: both sides comments getting torn apart and redacted with (personal attack removed), edit wars devolving into things like "It's commonly believed that he was a white Christian man", something i won't actually quote that included racist remarks relating to his belonging to a certain agricultural industry(yes, that one), and a Reddit sub that's a failed circlejerk(failed in that no one is circlejerking it up, or it's an incredibly racist, homophobic, transphobic space that just sucks at sarcasm and seems to appreciate those groups legitimately when they actually hate them) which is actually just an echo chamber for what I'll just sum up to being anti-gamergate gamers trying desperately to make out like he was a Samurai despite a lack of evidence, seemingly simply because of the 'chuds' they prefer to side against. Grab some popcorn, pull up a seat, and watch as Wikipedia admins and legitimate users try to fight fires and calm down a fight between reddit and 4chan being waged on Wikipedia. It really wouldn’t surprise me to find out Yasuke was a later (like late pre-production, not late development or anything) addition that’ll have less focus on his story and gameplay mandated by execs trying to retain some of that Valhalla popularity and not to too far back into stealth

It does look bad that the first mainline Asian AC game got a black protag instead of just two Asian ones But the outrage boils down to the expectation was shattered and people got mad, simple as. Personally I think we should wait for the gameplay before talking trash, I'm cool with playing as Yasuke since I accept that Ubi want to tell this story using this character. It's still a Japanese AC, as long as it's fun to play I'm content. The funny thing about that argument is that it's an Assassin's Creed game, not a Samurai's Creed game. So Yasuke doesn't HAVE to have been a "real" samurai, his fictional counterpart just has to be a real assassin.

Yasuke ...... he is just a baggage handler or bodyguard for Nobunaga Oda. And only 15 months after Yasuke started his job, Nobunaga Oda died. After that Yasuke never appears in Japanese history again. Yasuke is not a samurai, nor is he a hero. He is a common man.
