And whether he was formally granted any official rank, he was a big dude who could fight, and who was given a place as a sword-bearing warrior in Nobunaga's retinue. That's a role that would normally be fulfilled by a samurai. It's weird to split hairs over this in a franchise that is willing to be a bit looser about history to tell better stories, especially since this is one of the least loose elements of it.

As a Kazakh whose ancestors fought alongside the Mongol Empire, I can't help but notice the historical inaccuracy of this trailer. Even the great Kublai Khan, despite his power, was unable to conquer Japan in the 13th century due to the resilience of the samurai and natural disasters. In the same trailer, some character, clearly not associated with Japanese culture, simply deals with samurai. This is disrespectful to the history and culture of Japan, which I deeply respect. I put a dislike for such a free handling of history.
