Highly underrated game! Absolutely loved this one back when, but was always stuck at the last Zoda. Showed him who’s boss a few weeks back, did it in memory of my cousin who passed this year. We used to go to town on this game, starting fresh each time and challenging each other with weird level goals. I absolutely adore the OST. Outside of the obvious first party choices, this is my favorite soundtrack on the NES.

24:27 Cleopatra looking very European is somewhat historically accurate. The ruling family of Egypt in that time were not native, but descended from Ptolemy, one of Alexander the Great's generals, making her Macedonian Greek and not Egyptian. Unlike the rest of her family, Cleopatra _actually bothered to learn Egyptian_ and could speak to her subjects, so she was extra popular with her people. Regardless, a suntan was the sign of a common laborer in both Greek and Egyptian society, and women in particular avoided getting one, lest they risk looking like that had to leave home to work. Cleopatra, as a noble, would have definitely made sure her skin was as pale as possible.

Cleopatra was the last ruler in the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Egyptian history. It was brought about by Ptolemy I Soter, who hung around with Alexander the Great. So it makes sense that she would have lighter skin, though it could have been a touch darker, simply because of the geography. She was not, however, black. Despite what a certain "documentary" stated. A "documentary" that had a lawsuit filed against it, but I don't think that lawsuit really went anywhere.

I remember finding this game in KB toy store, around the year 2000, mixed in with random SNES and Genesis sports games that they had dug out of boxes in storage when they moved locations, within the mall. They also had a copy original Star Tropics. That was the first time I even knew Star Tropics had a sequel. Me and my friends couldnt get over the fact that an NES game was being sold as new, that long after the fact. I was in highscool and still played my NES only slightly less than my PSone.

If you say "No" to the old caveman he'll say something about Mike actually being right-handed and a starting pitcher. I think you're actually _supposed_ to say "No" when he asks if you're the "southpaw reliever" but most RPGs have trained us to always say "Yes" to things like that...

Great game! I usually have trouble with Zoda Y, but your strategy will make it much easier for me! As for a third game, I always thought they'd finally take it to the stars. In my mind, several years after the last game Mike and Miss Carol did get together and the aliens came back and abducted everyone from C-island except for Mike and his uncle who were stateside at the time (new alien leader wanting revenge for Zoda's final defeat in the last game). They return to C-island after Mike couldn't contact his girlfriend to find everyone gone. Dr. J then reveals the spaceship he was working on based on the remains of the wrecked ship from the first game and has Navcom re-programmed and ready to pilot it (gotta bring that robot back). Then Mike travels to outer space and each chapter as logged in the ship's log is a new planet/solar system he visits to try and find his girlfriend and the rest of the folks from C-island. They would meet up with various alien races (complete with references to other franchises and/or places that Star Tropics is known for and/or funny scenes where Mike tries to explain humans to them) including the ones he rescued along from the previous games and they help Mike by upgrading his ship with new abilities (kind of like how the sub in the first game got new abilities, but more in-depth and we could have some light space combat added to the game). As Mike rescues all the people from C-island they'd join him on the ship, and at the end they'd all be back on C-island with Mike being able to go around and talk to everyone optionally before talking to Carol one last time where they decide to go to the victory party together as a couple. This would've been a much bigger game on the SNES with tons of new places and things to do. Mike's new throwing weapons would've been some high tech "space balls" (yes, pun of the movie, but it's Star Tropics, we expect that), and with all the new alien tech he'd come across, he'd gain some unique new abilities too with some new consumable items (night vision for the dark rooms, hover shoes for temp walking over damage tiles, etc.).

Thanks for your walkthrough! This is one of my childhood favourites and I have probably played it through 10 or more times. My grandmother introduced me to StarTropics and I had played her copy of Zoda's Revenge before. I still remember going to KayBee Toys when I was on vacation to get this. It was one of only 3 NES games they had available. They were not on display and I had to ask the salesclerk for it specifically. I remember getting stuck on the brain in Ch. 4, then the boss of Ch. 7. I never understood in the Cactus Dance the going 'right' means from Mike's perspective instead of the top-down player perspective, so I always used trial-and-error to find the mine. Had a blast watching this, thanks again!

Man, I have been waiting for this one since the OG video. As always, you do not disappoint. :D So... now that we're here at last, I can say my peace about good ol' Zoda's Revenge. I think for the most part, it's a solid game. My main issue is that cop out, HORSECRAP ending. Didn't Mica EXPLICITLY mention that Argonia was, y'know... GONE?? As in, destroyed beyond any attempt at salvation? Why would Hirocon returning change that? UGH. What a terrible ending. That said, as I mentioned, I think the game itself is a fine successor to Startropics. The eight directional movement is an interesting mechanic that I wish a Startropics 3 would have come out to expand on further by making platforming that REQUIRES you to jump diagonally. Because unless I'm mistaken, there's no REQUIRED diagonal jumping in 2. There are some goofy moments with historical figures, but there were goofy moments in the first game. I mean, for god's sake Mike shoves BANANAS in his ears to block out Zoda's voice. This series is ALL about goofy moments and addictive gameplay. I'd steal your ST3 idea if I had the slightest bit of programming knowledge, HA. I know a user on Deviantart by the name of Diegichigo who actually made some sprites for Mica as a potential playable character for Startropics 3 and I'm all on board with that idea as well.
