Genuinely adore this game. It has all that early NES/famicom charm, 10/10 setting and theming (still tragically underutilized to this day!) and stays just the right side of being cryptic but solvable. I sincerely hope that your video inspires lots of people to give it a try for themselves.

@@Marzimus One of the best games on the NES easily!!! (IMO) I and my family did play this way back in the day (late 80s) and I always remembered it fondly for many years until like 2002 I finally rebought the game on my own and of course played and beat it after having not seen it for probably well over a decade!! I remember doing my 2 summer college classes that summer and being very eager each day for like a couple weeks or so to come home and play Scheherezade when I was done with class for the day. And the game was even better than I had remembered (and still is)!!! 🤩😍 I still own that cartridge from 2002 today and will actually probably play it again very soon as well as the Famicom version of the game (which I've never beaten ❤)!! Definitely one of my Faves (sorta Aladdin meets Crono Trigger BEFORE Crono Trigger; with Turn-Based battles too!!!) PS: Me and my family always had a GOOD laugh at the expense of Pukin's name because...well.......you figure it out...! Poor poor Pukin........ It just makes me SICK thinking about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤢 🥲😋😜🤪😆😂👍👳💯

@@gamergrad81 Pukin- that's great! You've sold me on the game for sure. I only watched about thirty minutes into the video and figured I'd give it a spin soon. Always looking for games to play with my SO as she's not much of a gamer and never know what'll catch her attention. I know the feeling of having to wade through work and/or school just to get back into the console (looking at you DKC2, which took me waaaay too long to realize the pun in Kong Quest.. 🤪). Game on, gamergrad!!

Oh wow! I'm beyond impressed with its design. From the beautiful sprites of people's faces, to actually showing the Robot translating, to characters telling you about secrets and making the playthrough quite playable (and less annoying), to Oracle of Ages Time-Travel mechanics. Not to mention having both Zelda 1 combat, and turn-based combat on the same game? This is an impressive NES game that does NOT have all the obtuse and annoyances of first developers, and an even more interesting 2nd version (how often did that happen)! Now I'm quite interested in the Japanese version (visuals and names of spells).

I'm always excited to see more Magic of Scheherazade content, because it is still a bit under the radar. There are a few things you omitted, though, that would have been fun to discuss. Like how the various merchants have preferred classes to give discounts to, or to go into more detail about how to avoid encounters on those "trap" spaces, as you put it. Or how to avoid getting the large amount of Grim Reapers you kept getting! There's actually a much more casual-friendly way to perform the Legend Sword Skip than the way you did it, although you might not have seen it if you didn't check enough different speedrun videos. The Bread of Gotrat and other free coin spots are worth nothing, too! It might be a good idea to reference where you learn some of these tricks from, too. As someone who helped develop some of the strategies you use here, it feels a bit weird to see someone do them and give no credit or reference to where it was learned from.

I've never heard of this game. But it looks interesting and I'm having a blast so far, a half hour in. Some of my favorite NES games are the ones with more experimental gameplay styles, featuring two different "genres" like Blaster Master and The Guardian Legend. In this game, it's weird how it has both Zelda-style overworld combat and Dragon Quest-style turn-based RPG combat. That'll be interesting to get used to! I'm sure the rest of this walkthrough will be enjoyable, as usual.

Culture Brain was such a neat company; they made so many oddball games, and unfortunately, a lot of them didn't turn out very well. Magic of Scheherazade was a huge exception; even if it didn't sell very well, it felt like they accomplished everything they were trying to do with it, and it all fits together pretty well. I never knew this thing existed until this wound up in my playlist -- and that's shocking, as a 1980s / 1990s kid who once owned an NES and subscribed to Nintendo Power for years and years. There are many obscure titles (especially those never released in the U.S.) that I often don't know much about, but I really didn't expect it for something in THIS genre -- I thought I knew all the 8-bit era RPG/Adventure games! I definitely wish it had been advertised more heavily.

That was one hell of a Friday night me and my brother stayed up all night and again Saturday just completely hooked but making slow progress lol. I liked it so much I bought it after I had to return the rental copy. I’m lucky in the fact I was old enough to be working in the mid to late 80’s so I amassed a huge nes library that I kept to this day. I’m pretty much going week to week waiting for him to do one I don’t own so I have an excuse to plug the few holes in my collection lol. Honestly hoping for a Link to the past and the rest of the mega man and Castlevania series fingers crossed 🤞

Definitely wish there was more to the series, and significantly less flashing colours. I cant believe I've never even heard if this game. It was great. I would have never figured out a lot of that back in the day. Or nowadays. Nice job man, worth the wait. Cant wait for the next one.

I had no idea those were pots the whole time; they looked like mouse head icons. I kept trying to figure out why there were random mouse heads everywhere, and chalked it up to "NES game mysteries".

Wow! I played this gem in the 90's. Here in Brazil, we used to rent cartridges from video stores, and this game was one of the games that impressed me in the 90's. Today I have it in my collection and I'm in the half of the journey, this vídeo will help me to conclude the adventure.

Man, your videos are always a treat to watch. Great information both on the story of the games and on the games themselves. If I may suggest a game, I would like to see you try Athena for the NES. Been contemplating trying that myself, actually.

Imagine being a KZbinr who regularly pumped out videos on some sort of schedule, having to research, write, film, record voiceover, edit, and upload a whole video... but on top of it you just decide to start-to-finish a hard af NES game every time you do that.

I never even heard of this title in North America when I was a kid, and I used to check out every title on the shelf every time I'd go to the video game / movie rental store back in the day.
