The final moments of UCLA's 1975 season, ending in their 10th NCAA title. This was Coach John Wooden's final game.

My recollection is a friend of my parents went I believe that the game was San Diego. This is when you could buy tickets in advance. He and my parents and I were at the sports arena in 1972. My other recollection is that people in Los Angeles were surprised and Kentucky in the first half that they were so strong.

I listened to this game at an awards banquet for our basketball team with a transistor radio and an ear piece. I hardly kept the game secret. Finally, our varsity basketball coach looked at me and said " did they do it?". I nodded and he paid tribute to Coach Wooden at a 2A banquet in Junction City Oregon.

I watched every home game that season at Pauley Pavilion. Not the best UCLA team, but maybe my favorite - starter's All American's Marques Johnson, Richard Washington and Dave Meyers were on that team, as well as Andre McCarter and Pete Trgovich, whom Wooden called the best pair of defensive guards he ever had. The sixth man was Ralph Drollinger.

..that was the game before versus Louisville. The Louisville reserve guard was 28 for 28 (for the season?) and MISSED the front end of a one-and-one.

@ToddAT1221 LOL...funny troll. We just beat ASU yesterday ("Bruins can't win a game") and we just won a championship in women's volleyball ("let alone a championship of any kind"). Last decade was good for us ("They had one good decade"), and we won a championship in '95, which negates your comment about Sam Gilbert. You really don't know anything about college basketball do you? We have 11 championships, you have 7. Read it and weep.

Let's put this in perspective - the UCLA campus gave Wooden THE greatest recruiting advantage in NCAA history: 1) an elite academic institution 2) great weather 3) access to the ocean, mountains and desert 4) benefits of a major city 5) connections to the entertainment industry 6) a program with a history of championships 7) sugar-daddy Sam Gilbert These factors then allowed Wooden to recruit the two greatest, most influential players in NCAA history ... that's how he did it! ... did I forget anything?
@underthesun3123 жыл бұрын
Most of those advantages must have left with Wooden, as his success at UCLA didn't continue to the same championship level with future coaches and players.

@@michaelterry4394 I'd like to diminish his accomplishments for having the two most dominant players in NCAA history ... But I can't because he also won 5 titles without Alcindor and Walton ...

@@michaelterry4394 But no way UCLA wins this game if Scott May doesn't beak his arm just two weeks earlier ...

The desert and the mountains is why they won. The thing you forgot is you lack objectivity in your assessment what makes a winner.

@thabruinsblitz Bahahaha Bruins can't win a game let alone a championship of any kind. No more Sam Gilbert means no more titles for that shithole that no one even cares about anymore. They had one good decade in the 60's and that's all they were. Go Cats!!!!

Are you ok? You seem rather overly reactive to ucla winning this game.
