What a war. Wow. Marquette's defense was amazing. An announcer said it was mirror-images, the two teams defense and half-court offense. Marquette kept bumping our players and blocking their movement and they were strong against our guards early to prevent easy passing. But, in the 3rd quarter they let down on rebounding and that's when UConn began to take over. The very dynamic Lou was best against the Marquette defense. She could move with the ball a little better and shoot from some more open spots. When Caroline began moving with the ball too, the whole game shifted. UConn then had 2 very mobile scorers with Aaliyah and Dorka rebounding and picking up scrap rebound put-backs. It's a common thing that if they keep a distance you can shoot over them or run through the open spaces and pass, but when they're guarding very tightly you need players who can take the ball one-on-one or off a screen (as Paige did over and over). After Dorka's fall in an earlier game and then getting kneed this time, I sure hope she's alright. She played well all game. Icing on the cake was Amari's play.

What a great upload for this coverage. Thanks. Yes, agree with what the commentators are saying, where would this team right now without Lopez. She is a great shooter, from all the angles and specially from the arc and not only that she is tough can drive straight to the rim, Uconn is so lucky to have Lopez in the team. She is a pure shooter better than the rest.

Happy new year everyone! Because of different time zone first thing i was able to do just a few minutes after midnight was enjoy a UCONN game. What a start in 2023. Huskies won not because of the collective team but rather because individualy great performance by several players - 1st quarter Aaliyah was just amazing but cooled down, mid game Lou kept scoring, and in the end Caroline suddenly showed what she can do in offense and defense (although i think a slower played game like this helps her a lot). Not many shots were made after offensive plays, at least the UCONN defensse looked really promissing and the Golden Eagles didnt get easy shots. Big props to Marquette. Megan Duffy prepared her team perfectly and the players executed great on defense. They got into the passing lanes, stopped the plays and didnt let any transition game happen. UCONN never got into the game. Just great defense - wonder how long Marquette was preparing just for UCONN. Everyone is always trying to do their best game versus the top dog of the league. And this is where i think UCONNs opposition has adopted to Nika and her ball game. The last few games she is having less and less of an impact. Huskies game overall got a lot slower, the TO got and issue because teams have figured out the passing lanes and know how to play against this pass first point. Nika needs to evolve some more and develope an offensive by taking the ball more often to the basket. But it is not just Nika to blame: all Huskies looked tired, rarely offball movement - that was A LOT better just a few weeks ago. Wether it is physically or mentally i hope UCONN will find its legendary Nika-energy and will start in games again as furies as they did in the beginning of the season.

I think Aaliyah may have gotten hurt. She was limping a bit with her left leg. She also seemed very tired and was trying to pick her moments to be super quick & strong. She needs a rest.

Ducharme at 6:00/1:22:18 tosses in a 3-point shot." LouLou" now has a second outside shooter & playmaker to compliment her D1 shooting guard skills. Edwards, aka, "Super Bunny", now has another shooter to flip the ball to when she's surrounded by five girls in the paint. How sweet it is. But wait! There's more! The fact that Edwards is drawing a crowd is an opportunity for the four other girls because they can go to their G-Spot to take a pass from Edwards. Every girl knows where her G-Spot is & "Super Bunny" just has to remember & find any one of them when she's surrounded by three or four defenders. So, Aliyia has to get the ball over her head, look around, move around like Timmy from Gonzaga & find the hot hand or the open girl with the 65% sure shot. Right now, she has LouLou & Caroline. Soon, she'll have LouLou, Caroline & Azzi. All three have more than one G-Spot. Admittedly, it's asking Edwards, Patterson, Dorka, & Dewberry to grow mid-season, but the reward, mid-range jumper bunnies, could be amazing. OMT, Caroline, if you get elbowed in the head, get even. Elbows to the kidneys, spleen, liver, back of the head, temple or jaw will let the girl who thinks you're a twinkie know there is a price for being a bully. Just time it when the ref isn't looking. Also, you can put your knee in the gap behind hers & wait for her to jump up. D1 WBB is an eye for an eye contact sport as well as a finesse sport. You can be an All America, so act like one.

Ducharme fouled less and found better ways to score. Edwards hustled the whole game and drew 2 to 3 defenders. Coach Geno gave DeBerry more minutes at the end of a still closeish game, which is a good sign for her and a small sign of confidence from the coaching staff. DeBerry needs to toughen up a bit more, not get so visibly upset when challenged... Edwards and Uhas are great role models for her to embrace. Lou.. gifted scorer with big brass balls. Hard not to admire this tough team.

DeBerry came in late only because Ducharme took a shot to the head. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting DeBerry to get minutes unless there is no alternative.

Deberry's minutes were only due to Dorka injury and then late game injury to Ducharme. Probably wouldn't have played a minute otherwise.

A "good game" is most often interpreted as scoring points. That's really a narrow/poor view of what a good game is. A player can impact a game as dramatically on defense as on offense. The media has contributed greatly to the offense-is-superior mindset.

Basically Marquette's coach Megan Duffy replicated on how to to play UCONN from UCF last year. Tough defense, no easy baskets, and forcing to play ugly game with full of turnovers. This is why PB and AF is the difference maker. Thank God for Lou and Caroline who made their shots.

Nika really struggled today. This was shades of last season.
The girls of UCONN are just tired at this point. They are all half a second slow. Everything will just be a little more difficult. The will might be there but the body might not be jyst as responsive. But these girls always finds a way to win. Coach Geno might not get what he wants from the girls but hecannot complain with the result.

I don't see what all the hoopla is about Lou Lopez-Senechal. Don't get me wrong, she is a very good player. What I don't understand is all the hype she gets for "stepping up"! This game she scored 22 points, the first time she has exceeded her season average. Both Juhasz and Edwards have stepped up much more than Senechal. Caroline DuCharme is starting to heat up and she will step up. But Senechal is just maintaining her season average...don't get the hype!

UCONN Turnovers are killing this team! This team has a love for playing in darkness instead of looking for light. With darkness being danger areas….picking up your dribble in the lane with no plan for the ball, dribbling while double-or triple-teamed, picking up your dribble in corners or against the sideline for no reason, dribbling into or passing into double-and triple-team situations, forcing passes through defenders, etc…. They commit so many low-basketball-IQ plays, it’s difficult to believe all these players have so much playing experience behind them. They keep forcing plays that just aren’t there. They rely too much on hope or imagination instead of reading the situation as it presents itself in front of them. They also start dribble drives with a plan for what they are going to do at the end of it instead of reading the defense’s reaction and adjusting accordingly! The cure?……they have to slow down, 10-20% to a pace they can handle. They keep driving 100 mph even when faced with a 45 mph curve….it’s suicide!!! They just keep pushing a pace that is beyond their capabilities and unless they smarten up in this area and start playing more within themselves and at a pace they can actually manage consistently, they’ll suffer an early exit from the NCAAs. You can’t average 20+ turnovers/game against inferior teams and expect to beat top competition! Consider the opening play of the game….Lou, and I love Lou, Lou drives hard into the lane, directly into a double-team, into darkness I like to call it, a low-success probability situation, she cuts too hard, loses her balance, picks up her dribble in the lane which is a cardinal sin, and and travels for a silly turnover on the first possession of the game! This is a perfect example of this problem because she actually made multiple mental errors on this play and unfortunately, it’s a trademark of this team this year. It’s their greatest weakness and they show zero sign of correcting it!!! The problem is a mental one! Physical mistakes happen and are acceptable, but the high number of silly mental breakdowns is disastrous. There’s a time to play fast and a time to slow down. Quit forcing everything and let the game come to you, and then attack the opportunities as the present themselves!!!! Play in and toward light and not into darkness!!! It’s s simple game if you look for high probability for success situations. It’s an impossible game if you constantly force low probability for success situations…..like moths to a flame, this team just can’t stop themselves, but they better figure it out!!!!! The real shame of it is that this is a very fixable issue if each player looks hard in the mirror and holds themselves accountable for their own actions and decisions. The team also needs to understand where it’s offensive strength resides, in Lou and Aaliya. 80% of their offense should be funneled through these two…and maybe Caroline now as well, but too many players take too many shots that they aren’t good at. Those shots are for practice, to get better, but cone game time, stick to what you’re good at, player by player. Lou can carry this team if they let her, inside, outside, mid-range, she can score from anywhere. Leverage her skills and experience and work harder at getting her open for shots.

The knee on knee after the rebound for Dorka and the elbow to the face for Caroline was hardly intentional. Marquette did put on a fight and defended really tight but they didnt play dirty at all, hence not an exorbitant amount of fouls called and i think the refs did a good job.
