Edwards and Muhl are the rocks for the team this season. Lou is an amazing baller, pleasure to watch. The added playing time is showing the bench players EXACTLY what they need to work on (forced and unforced turnovers, travels, dribbling into traps). The rookies are being tossed to the wolves a little bit.. not how Geno would want them to learn, but this is how things are going right now. DeBerry showed flashes of talent and I hope she can find her hands for passing and catching... hard way to finish a game (on the bench again due to turnovers). Griffin found her stride and confidence again.. and WOW can she cut and finish at the rim. Sending good vibes to Nika and Lou.. hope you recover quickly... both amazing warriors.

UConn really pulled this game together. After Nika was hurt I wish her a speedy recovery.. it felt like it was over.. Aubrey Griffin was the star this game. She had a slow start and wasn’t really doing much offensively but after catching those rebounds and getting her and 1’s she went on a streak attacking the basket getting blocks and create some of UCoons best offensive plays of the game. I gotta give it to Princeton for such an exciting battle. Ty is game really showed that UConns role players are very important even when the stars are out, new light starts to shine ✨ I’m just scared of all these injuries!

Sure do agree with you on Aubrey's 29, awesome. Aubrey must be an incredible teammate, such a great disposition. DeBerry, I don't know; to me, she's a victim of everything being too easy in high school, and everyone telling she's All this and All that; she didn't need to learn positioning, foot work and timing. Hell, she has difficulty with a high post handoff. Sorry, I'm not sold on DeBerry.

Even with Ice, dorka, ang azzi out, the current composition is still very competitive. But losing Nika could be the one that could break the camels back. Playing the point position the way she does for UCONN cannot easily be replaced. How different the team looks without her inside the court. She takes a lot of flak from fans of UCONN for her scoring but that is not the main job of a point guard. This game just highlighted her value to the team. It is not the scoring but the overall flow of the offense and the defense. When she left the game, UCONN lost its steering wheel. I hope she's ok. With so many critical pieces out due to injury, UCONN really needs her just to be competitive.

Nika keeps the UCONN defense going hard when on the court.. as witnessed by the sloppy defense by UCONN in Q4 when she was off the court. Her attitude and toughness is contagious... and she naturally pushes the team into good look fast breaks. Nika got 7 assists that game, drew offensive charges, and added a reliable 5 points. Her job is not to be a volume scorer... but be ENOUGH of a threat to open up the defense to pass to volume scorers. Nika and Aaliyah are the two rocks this season... and they were rookies just a few years ago. That's the kind of progress you want to see in college players.

This is a tough game to judge from the season-long perspective. The lineups were all different, the play was freshman-ragged, there were individual problems and successes. Lou dribbles well, but isn't as careful with her passing as guards usuall are. Amari was great, considering her college playing experience. Aubrey was terrific. Aaliyah was very good except for the knee. The defense was good, but difficult since Princeton runs so many great quick plays to get open looks. I wonder if this game reminded Geno of his early days coaching before he had nat'l champ teams. One thing that stood out (the dog that didn't bark) was that they avoided too many bad passes in the lane. There's still some problem with getting a rebound and then getting tied-up, but that's relatively minor. It was great experience for the players who had little playing time.

Question: the semi circle in the lane, a restricted area where defenses are not able to assume a charge will be called if they are "hit" by an offensive player making a move to the basket. Does anyone know if that rule still applies, or are there exceptions? Thanks.
@DyreStraits2 жыл бұрын
I've never been clear about the rules regarding the "restricted zone". My best interpretation is: If the collision occurs outside the arc it's an offensive foul. If the collision occurs inside the arc it's a defensive foul.

Edwards wasb't able to score that much primarily because Nika was not there. There is nobody confident enough to make a pass inside the shaded area. There was a lot of soft and tentative passes. Even Caroline's game suffered because she was forced to play the point. Her tendencies is to make herself available to score either inside or outside. Making her a point guard basically destroyed her game. Unlike Lou Lopez or Azzi, Caroline cannot make her own shot. She needs to be assisted. As for Amari, her errors far outweighs her scoring. She needs to concentrate on positioning herself on the block both defensively and offensively. She is just too slow and too soft. With her inside the court, UCONN should play zone on defense. She lacks court awareness.

Not a fun game to watch. Hard fought W by pure will to fight as a team and never give up! It was only Princeton but it showed the mental strength of the huskies with all those drawbacks. Aubrey was so important in this game, before her injury Nika was an amazing floor general and had the huskies on a very clear track to victory - this game just showed what difference she makes on the team and how the huskies perform with or without her. Hey, i am a little bias: i love Nika and for a reason. And then, Amari look pretty good which raises the question more why she has so few minutes and especially why didnt she play versus ND where UCONN clearly was lacking in the size department. More minutes for her would mean less time for fouls and injuries for other key players, she should get more time in the rotation for sure. All in all this was more a battle than a game. So many balls just got thrown away instead of properly passes - on both teams - so many unnecessary and really stupid fouls and not smart plays, but there were also some highlights - again on both teams. Princeton really played smart in the 4th quarter and tried to take advantage of the UCONNs injuries but the husky ladies really showed their tremendous will to keep fighting, especially Aubrey. So now 8 injuries on a 15 players roster, come on how much more unlucky can you get?! More than 50% of the team out, and it is like this the second year in a row?! I am starting to sense a pattern here where all teams accross the board agreed on you cant beat UCONN on the floor so just every team nags a bit on them be forcing more and more injuries. Well that is obviously not true but you have a sore feeling that UCONN gets beaten up so bad all the time.

Not in the NCAA playbook.

Amari played good this game. The question is will she be consistent with it. The only problem I have with her is ball security and figuring out what’s happening on the court. She kept getting the ball stolen from her and she runs the play regardless if it worked or not. She needs to learn how to improvise, sometimes the play is just not there and she still tries to force it. But my biggest problem of the night was with Caroline. WTF was she doing?!?!? She ran over like ever damn person and played so out of control like I was trying to understand. It’s like ever since her 15 pt game she has been trying to force her game. I understand that she is trying to get back into form but the needs to be patient. Her game is really a relaxed and patient one, she gets going once she’s settled in but she hasn’t yet because she’s to busy trying to force it. Aliyah made me mad to cause she was somewhat doing the same thing. She was trying to force some stuff & dong thing uncharacteristic from this year. She has been playing better and she seems to be reverting back to me. I think one dorka comes back maybe (hopefully) she will relax , I think she has a lot of pressure on her to do something downlow and it was getting to her. All in all. It was an ugly win but a win. This team has to be patient, you can’t be going full speed with half the team out because somewhere you have to figure it out & know personnel. That was the big problem last night.
@northerniggy82612 жыл бұрын
Amari played a good first half, then lost focus the 2nd half to the point of being a big liability. She is in a tough spot... not quite the passer Oliva was... and she gets tunnel vision and seems unable to improvise (as you mentioned). Good points bout Caroline... she was rushing and making bad decisions on both ends of the court. I think Caroline is trying too hard, playing a bit too much outside her control and missing layups. I disagree about Edwards... she has been an absolute ROCK on the roster. Ya, she missed a shot or two.. and a pass or two.. and had a bad foul or two.. but overall she was a big plus contributor on the boards, outlet fast breaks and half court offensive movement. Edwards hit her shots at an acceptable percentage... playing fast and hard yet calm. I don't see the uncharacteristic stuff you are... I see rebounding, in-range shots, good screens and handoffs.. and better control over her fouling choices (less of a reflex foul than previous years). Edwards hit that big 2 pointer after the inbounds with only seconds left on the clock.. and she had some wicked post-up buckets. Geno is giving Edwards big-time critical minutes, because she is performing. The last few minutes of full court pressure... without Lou... with a high-rookie ratio on the court for UCONN, was where the game got the most ugly (turnovers). Princeton never quit, and they schooled UCONN's rookies to the point of being 1 shot away from winning. UCONN coaches didn't have much of a choice to let the rookies figure it out. Good thing Lou, Nika, Aliyah and especially Audrey ran up a nice buffer lead before two of them were injured and couldn't close-out the game. There is a reason Geno doesn't play rookies with small leads... its a very hard way to learn when you can cost the starters the game. Geno paces how he plays rookies... and players that are working through things (deBerry, Ducharme). Yesterday's game, Geno didn't have that option, but the rookies still managed to pull it off. Hard won victories give great instruction.
@deanna84872 жыл бұрын
@@northerniggy8261 Edwards have been a rock. I wasn’t really knocking her. But my problem is that her play has been different this year which has been good because she has been patient and seeing the floor and basically been able to do what she wanted to do. She limited her turnovers. But the last 2 or 3 games she has been going back to that because it’s like she’s trying to force it a bit. I think that everyone feels they have to step up more in someway that they are playing differently than what’s been successful. Honestly I wasn’t really upset with ines play yesterday ofc she was going to have her rookie moments. But she was really the only one that could breakthrough the press when it was needed. I think nerves kicked in. Ayanna has to find a way to be a problem on offense. Defensively she been straight. That’s why geno keeps her in half the time. Honestly Princeton did put the pressure on them but I did feel like they could beat it easily. But no one was thinking. They needed to slow down you don’t have the same personnel out there. They made no adjustments and it wasn’t just the rookies. It was literally the whole team.
