This is a great man who deserves more respect than those of you get on KZbin look up those people who you don't like and talk bullshit about them. He came to my school the tenth this month to celebrate the 50yr anniversary of my school becoming diversified. Just like Whites, Hispanics and Asians having a history blacks do to. We have the right to find out about ours just like whites can look at theirs in EVERY history class that we have been in since we started history. RESPECT AND LISTEN!!!!!

We all indians. Academia doesn't believe the melanesians are african, they think they're eurasian. Well, they were the original africans of Eurasia before they were scattered to the ends of the earth. The southern "native american" tribes are melanesian, which mainstream admits (refer to Chief Warhorse of the chata/choctaw tribe) melanesian is austronesian, like India/Bharat and descendants of african and australoid people. The bering strait native american tribes (mr. Gates is correct, we ain't them siberian folks) were more recent than the southern tribes who, through migration history, are cousins of the meshika (mexican) indigenous peoples and peruvians + many more south and central american peoples.

University of California Television (UCTV) From clips 33:34 to 33:40 he say's Now you just swab your cheek or spit in a test-tube depending on what company you use and we can talk about that later then from clips 39:07 to 39:11 he say don't nobody believe you can take spit and figure out a tribe, what are you crazy? So basically he's lying about tracing someones DNA to determine a "tribal ancestry" in his own words. His own results were anomalous and had to be run many times according to him but eventually it was revealed through his mom's side that he has Nubian blood yet he dismisses the claim because as he says the problem with being a Zulu or Nubian is none of our ancestors who came here in slavery came from South Africa the Zulu people or Nubia none ZERO! With all that in mind that puts to question the very idea of DNA testing itself and suggest that the whole concept is fraudulent. He himself has very little African roots considering that both his parents are mulattoes who's fathers fathers father were so called white. With regards to Alex Haley well Alex Haley’s 1976 novel “ROOTS” and the 1977 miniseries was plagiarized from the 1967 book, THE AFRICAN. Harold Courlander, the white author of “The African” sued Alex Haley in 1978 for stealing his story. Through testimony it was revealed Alex Haley stole Courlander’s work and lied about his African heritage. The conversation taking place in this video is based on assertions and even flat out lies that are being made up in the back as Gates puts it. You people at UC should be ashamed of yourselves for running with such a hoax like DNA testing. SHAME ON YOU!

Our history as black skin people is right here, right now. We have always been here black skin people. We have always been here in this place we now call America. Although our Native Americans, which is our ancestors sailed over here to the New World FROM AFRICA thousands and thousands years ago, before our European Brothers and Sisters, we have recent findings right now of that evidence, although my people, my black skin people of the Chickasaw Indian Nation has known this all along. We came to Tishomingo Oklahoma, crossing that trail of tears NOT as slaves to the Indians we see and look like today, they are our family, we are mixed blood, with different skin tones, because of white man rape! But the black skin Chickasaw Indians go back thousands and thousand of years! What Mr. Louis Gates, Jr. Told my Cousin Don Cheadle is wrong. We were NEVER slaves to the Indians, theTRUTH is they are our family, we came to Tishomingo, Oklahoma as people on that trail of tears, but my young Cousin Don Cheadle don't know our complete family history and I guess he believed Mr. Louis Gates, Jr. We black skin people in America are all black skin Native Americans of different tribes. We were never brought here on slave ships, the Europeans already had us for slaves in our own land, they did not need to go to Africa.

Not truth. Native have a very unique gene in the world. Though they are part Homo sapiens like Africans the also have Asian and Europeans genes. This makes them extremely unique because they also career their own unique genetic marking. The Homo sapiens genes is what made them dark skinned. But native are not African but they do career a percentage of African genes. The reason is because of the migration of Homo sapiens.

They can tell you your y-haplogroup or type, they can tell you your maternal haplogroup or type, they can tell you about others who share DNA with you and if you all share an ancestor in common by looking at your genealogical tree. Anything else is purely speculation. You share more DNA with people within your current surroundings than you do with people in other countries. Unless you moved wherever you're currently staying recently. Then your DNA would go back to where you came from. He spoke the truth. Haplogroups are everywhere because we had ancestors all over the world.

I love the analogy you use comparing racism and black holes. I didn’t hear about this issue with Gates and Affleck. It makes me sad they felt a need to hide the ugliness we inevitably find when looking at our ancestors. We are not our ancestors and not even our parents! I’ve been a life-long anti-racist and anti-imperialist and I have a grandfather - by marriage - who was in the KKK; a second cousin who was instrumental in the formation of the CIA; and at least twelve ancestors who came here on the Mayflower. I also have a child molester and a woman who used a fire poker to kill an Indian who broke into her home. My mother was a racist and I have a beautiful Black son I couldn’t be more proud of. I feel that my exposure to these issues from a young age made me think deeply about the logic (or lack of) of such craziness.

Ok, maybe I was too hard on Dr. Gates!! Another way to view his presentation is that he is using humor and jokes to warn us that there is nothing to this DNA African connection. Remember he said his partner is in the lab "making it up anyway". So he is doing two things: 1) reinforcing the test results that connect aboriginal Americans to Africa; and 2) using humor to warn anyone that takes a DNA test that the results are ""cooked up"" in the labs. He also joked about the fact that he gets a raise from Harvard every-time he has a public disagreement with other black scholars. So I recommend you watch one more time and listen to the many disclaims that he installs with ghetto language. He uses ghetto slang when he wants one group to understand and the other not to understand. I'm sure he was paid after this speech! He`s not tap dancing...he`s doing a soft shoe act! Smart guy!

Slavery is completely accepted in Islam. As a matter of fact, Quran 4:24 allows it by letting the Muslim slave master have sex with someone's wife IF she's the slave master's slave "right hand possess". When you realize this ALONG with Sunan Abu Dawud 2:2150 and sahih Muslim 8:3433, you will find out that whatever complaint African Americans have for the time the US had slavery is made void.

Bruce Ramsey It appears you cannot read into allegories, metaphors, and parables, even though you obviously have read al-Qur'an.. 3:6 He it is Who has revealed the Book to you; some of its verses are decisive - they are the basis of the Book - and others are allegorical. Then those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part of it which is allegorical, seeking to mislead, and seeking to give it (their own) interpretation. And none knows its interpretation save Allah, and those firmly rooted in knowledge. They say: We believe in it, it is all from our Lord. And none mind except men of understanding. If you want to understand Qur'an, really, you must read him over and over and over. Then, 'light' will begin to enter your heart. Peace to you....

C Abdul Rashid Rashid: It appears you cannot read into allegories, metaphors, and parables, Bruce: How so? Rashid: even though you obviously have read al-Qur'an.. Bruce: Reading the Quran makes it so you can read into allegories, metaphors and parables? Rashid: 3:6 He it is Who has revealed the Book to you; some of its verses are decisive - they are the basis of the Book - and others are allegorical. Bruce: It says THAT!?!?! You SURE about that? Let's see if that's true: M. M. Pickthall He it is Who fashioneth you in the wombs as pleaseth Him. There is no Allah save Him, the Almighty, the Wise. Shakir He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He likes; there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise Yusuf Ali (Saudi Rev. 1985) He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. There is no god but He, the Exalted in Might, the Wise." Did THAT sound like what you posted? No taqiyya, please. Rashid: Then those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part of it which is allegorical, Bruce: IF I'm attacking the Quran, wouldn't I want to say the Quran was NOT metaphorical but LITERAL when he says the sun is "running to a resting place" and says embryos are "clots of congealed blood"? Sounds like it's just the opposite of what you just said. Rashid: seeking to mislead, and seeking to give it (their own) interpretation. Bruce: Oh? What have I said that was misleading? IF I have misinterpreted the Quran, then give the REAL interpretation, OK? Rashid: And none knows its interpretation save Allah, Bruce: IF not, then how can the Quran be "clear signs handed down"? HOW can the Quran be a "clear book"? So, even MUSLIMS don't understand the Quran? Really? YOU don't understand the Quran even? You SURE you don't understand the Quran? Rashid: and those firmly rooted in knowledge. Bruce: Oh, "firmly rooted in knowledge"? ARE you "firmly rooted in knowledge"? Rashid: They say: We believe in it, it is all from our Lord. Bruce: Where did I ever say such a thing? Rashid: And none mind except men of understanding. Bruce: None mind...what? Rashid: If you want to understand Qur'an, really, you must read him over and over and over. Bruce: And I'll learn that ISIS is wrong to kill those who refuse to pay jizyah tax? OR, will I learn that ISIS is killing people the way the Quran wants them to? Rashid: Then, 'light' will begin to enter your heart. Peace to you.... Bruce: Well, thanks. And, peace be with you as well.

He was great. I really enjoyed this lecture. The funny thing is he’s absolutely correct about the Native American part. I was in the military and I swear it seems like all the black people from all over the country had the same Native American story. I always wondered how was that possible. The only discrepancy I have is how did 400 thousand become so many if some weren’t already here ? To me that’s the only part I have a problem with. I believe we were already here . I’m not saying they were the Asian looking native Americans . I believe Africans were already here before the slave ships arrived

Diabolical Quantum Mechanic I hasn’t disappeared. It diluted. White started mixing in diluting the BLACK WORLD creating mix races. So the only people who look like themselves are probably the Africans. White carry so much of our Melanin that they look like a Healthy Version of themselves. When whites stop mixing they regress.Europe commonly known as a black land had to be RE CIVILIZED in 711 by the moors. Bathing had to be RE introduced to a blackLand that already had baths. Black Mother is Mother of the ORIGINAL Teacher. The White Mother is mother to our ENEMY the Destroyer. Bible calls them ENEMY.

Really interesting talk. I didn't realise Mr Gates was involved in the Transatlantic Slave Trade Database. I used it to locate the place my GGG Gfather was taken from in W Africa. Not sure about the DNA testing thing. The results always seem to provide food for jokes about ancestry. There was a serious point being made about Oprah and her Zulu ancestry. I had the test done free of charge but I don't think I'd ever see myself paying!

I feel Gates could be wrong as well. There are people with strong oral history (and perhaps only a little family owned documentation),but there is historical literature, geographical info,(cemeteries) and census records & other corroboration to substantiate having Native American blood. I wish there could be a Q & A type forum for African Americans to ask him face to face what they have found versus what he has found.

@FlankerVT Teaching unfiltered African american history is no more "pro black" than teaching american history is "pro american". Also you're clearly neglecting the fact that one can make a career revolving around African American history, studies or interest. Considering much of african american family history is unknown its perfectly reasonable to show special interest in unveiling it. Black history in school usually is treated very 1 dimensionally. Hence Af-Am studies courses in college.

I guess that this is statistics where they take several African Americans tested admixture and averaged them together and give a general overview of supposedly what the "average" African American's genetic admixture would be. Of course, there are plenty of African Americans with 0% Native American ancestry and some with 25% or more Indigenous American and/or East Asian ancestry.
