Sorry for the clicky title, but in all the time I have owned the Super 6 I think I have produced only one video on it!
The UDO Super 6 is one of the most stunning synths in recent years for being totally modern in many ways but at the same time rolling back time to where a complex synth could be easy to patch and create new sounds
I hope you are all doing well and enjoy the clip. Hope the High Frequencies around 6:45 are not too intense!
Regards,
Mike

I love the Super 6 endless creations with it here. Setting the 'WAVE' as a LFO shape opens up a lot of sonics as does using LFO 1 as a OSC. Great video enjoyed that and subbed

Thanks James! I apreciate it. Indeed... so many awesome under the hood things you can do.. for me its the only slight downfall with the synth trying to rember the secret handshakes to get to some of the functions! :D

Beautiful synth that I think will be popular for many years to come. I wish I had the cash to buy one! I'm saving up, but I can't help noticing that I'll reach enough money for an Osmose before I reach enough money for a Super 6. Tough call!

I've spoted Creator on your B&W monitor. Love it 😀 (and sadly, as you know, I don't have the dongle anymore) BtW, even if the my original Atari monochrom monitor still works, how do you connect such modern LCD to an Atari ST? And thank you for this video. This instrument was presented as a kinda Juno 6/106 modern impersonnation when it was launched, hence I didn't have so much interest in it as I already have a Juno6 but I realize now it can do different things, others than Juno 6 sounds. Yes it's a "pad machine", as the Junos are, but with something more in it. And I'm impatient about your videos to come, mate.👍🏻

@100ThingsIDo Жыл бұрын
The ST connects via its monitor port to a genric VGA monitor, there are cables on ebay to do it. Its a little picky on what it will work with but other than that looks pretty much the same as the old 12" B&W. Indeed my matching Notator dongle was lost a long time ago otherwise I would be running that :D

You've got this synth sounding incredible. I'm wondering how important the poly after touch is to the sounds your making? Because i'm not amazing on keys so I was thinking about getting the desk top module and perhaps using it with the scalar 2 vst plugin which helps me play chords that I don't know. But I wouldn't be able to do the expressive poly after touch then. But I can play some stuff on keys and i'm alright because i'm pretty descent on guitar. So i'm wondering if I should get the full blown keyboard if poly after touch is really essential for getting that beautiful rich expressive pad sound. Then I was also thinking of seeing if there was a way to utilise the poly after touch keyboard on it to play just midi, send that out to the DAW and constrain the notes some how so I avoid hitting duds and pass the aftertouch data through with it and back out of the DAW and into the synth maybe. So I need to dig around the manual and see if thats possible as well.
@100ThingsIDo
@100ThingsIDo Жыл бұрын
Hey! Aftertouch is only monophonic on the Super 6 so i don't think you would see much difference between it and the desktop. It supports MPE (poly aftertouch included I believe) via MIDI so you would be good there also. I think if you go that route you should be good :D
@thejuice1254
@thejuice1254 Жыл бұрын
@@100ThingsIDo It says there's a firmware update in 2022 that gives it full polyphonic aftertouch. So you don't have that enabled in that awesome patch your playing?
@100ThingsIDo

@@thejuice1254 I think the poly aftertoch is only by MIDI\USB. No after touch at all on this video :D

I would say some of the Korg DW synths of the llate 80's or early 90's had a lush sound too them, you can still pick them up for a sensible price for the moment. Other than that the Waldorf Quantum is similar but in a very diffrerent way! :D

hi Mike, i was wondering does Super 6 have a "pass-thru" ("pickup") editing mode ? meaning that moving a slider does not change a sound until it passes thru the value saved, to prevent sudden spikes and jumps when the physical position of the slider does not reflect the saved value. its a feature most if not all polys have, vintage and new. asking because i noticed a jump in value at 06:24 and 06:25 when you touched the wave selector and vcf cutoff, respectively, which sounds like pass thru mode is turned off or not there ? also, there is a very few demos of S6 with binaural off, with all the 12 voice glory. in your experience can it sound creamy and organic in this mode too ? of course i would lose the stereo, and phase smear, to gain more poly. but i love mono pads too, and more often prfer adding width via complex stereo delays/reverb from eventides and lexicons. or if it has absolutely has to be ultra wide at the source - simply double track.

@100ThingsIDo 9 ай бұрын
Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I can't find mention in the manual of changing the slider behaviour to allow a pass-thru mode like many other synths have. It would surprise me if George did not include this so it could be my lack of finding it. I would suggest to send them a support question.. if its not there he might be able to add it in a future update. Its really a beautiful sounding synth and very easy to make awesome patches :D

Tempted with on of these, as Im looking for a 2nd hybrid. Im trying to get the best mix I can. Im tight for space, so its one keyboard out to bring one in, or one module out to bring on in. currently have 4 Analogues, 3 digitals and one hybrid. The 4 analogues bing a polybrute - OB6 and prophet 6 modules, and a Pro 3. the Pro3 will likely go as Im not really a mono guy - Im not using it much really. for digitals I have a Virus, a fantom (which is my controller for the modules as well) and and Iridium keyboard (which offers wavetable, sampling, granular, FM as well as VA). my Hybrid is a Peak which ive had a long time now lol. If the Pro 3 goes, I can bring in a desktop (or possibly a Take 5, but I think I have enough analogue polys). id like a 3rd wave but its keyboard only and the Pro3 wont provide enough space. Ditto the super Gemini just announced. The super 6 module could well be an option. A 2nd Hybrid rounds out the "technologies" well (3 analogue, 3 digital, 2 hybrids) - and it does have character the Peak doesnt (no character is not always a bad thing). Pads and evolving sounds are where I play a lot - as well as classic poly sounds (and probably another reason Pro3 isnt getting used much). I could do with more voices.... yes 12 is enough but you loose the binaural stuff which is a key feature (not sure Id use it that much - but it is key) hence the gemini being a better fit.... So ... Keep the Pro 3 for now and see if a gemini or 3rd wave make it into desktop form, or replace with a super six now......

@@100ThingsIDo I particularly liked power tracks pro. I loved how the ST took less than a minute to boot up and I could be playing around with power tracks straight away. I had cubase but I could waste too much time doing templates and all sorts of other things rather than actually just playing and mixing music. So power tracks was my favorite

@@100ThingsIDono problem, it does sound amazing and evolving due to the pedals. But even dry, S6 can create insane shifts and crossfades of oscillators, due to the long release and attack hold. Mix lfo1 in audible range and it adds to it even more.
