I first heard the udu played in one of Esperanza Spaulding's songs Ponta De Areia and had no idea what drum made such unique beautiful tones and finally figured out what it was! And my first udu drum arrived today!

That is a great album. I'd guess technically it's a ghaṭam (from India) instead of an udu (from Africa), but a clay pot by any other name... :)

Beautiful Udu, sounds great. I'll likely have to go with something a bit cheaper though, at least for my first one. The Udu definitely on my short list of future instruments, thanks to previous videos you've done, love the sound and it will work great with my music. Thanks for the great review! Rick Dior has a 25 minute video about udu that I'd highly recommend. Also David Kuckherman has a nice instructional video on YT. Still don't have an udu, but every time I see a video like this I want one :) Thanks Kalani!

There is a song (particularly 3 of them) from the Ghost in the shell ost that use this drum in the song. All of them are variations on the song “making of a cyborg”. Also, most video game osts use it. That’s how I found out about this drum.

I made one myself for my first UDU. I buy one vase and I make the hole. The sounds is good but is a little bit thickt so whe you hit the sounds is not so strong but the sound of the hole is perfect. After practicing I buy one professional the brand is Schlagwerk from Germany this is one really good. I would love to buy one in the future with the drum on it . There are some woods models around there really rad too.
