You should have eaten at the temple. Its the best food in Udupi and better than any restaurant anywhere really. There are a few temples around the main Krishna temple. You should speak to a local to get the details. There isn’t any guidebook to help unfortunately or proper road signs. Also try Mitra Samaj, a restaurant near the temple. Its got really amazing food.
@basava81772 жыл бұрын
For god sake don't suggest eat in temple. They littarally throw the food in fron of you like you are dog , and so called devotees eat food on the floor . Yak, as a Hindu i never encourage such worship.

For lots of middle class Indian families, travelling for tourism is considered a luxury and therefore unaffordable. However, everyone travels for pilgrimage somewhere, at least once a year. So many a times you can see touristy things at pilgrimage sites in India, since that is the only opportunity for experiencing such things for many people. Also regarding guest houses, many people come to visit major temples from far away parts of the country. So obviously, they need a place to stay, I don't understand why it didn't make sense to you. About the building that had cows in it, it was a cow shelter. These are protected places for cows where they are cared for and get food, etc. Here they are not raised for meat. And since cows are considered sacred for us Hindus, you can find these cow shelters attached to temples, where pilgrims can worship them, along with the Gods and donate offerings for them.

Am from Udupi . Evening Pooja at the temple starts around 5.30 to 8.30 is simply spectacular . It includes fan Pooja, palanquin Pooja ,flute service ,and then cradle Pooja . They sing a beautiful lullaby and a then the idol is kept in a special golden cradle inside which has a revolving toy above which only Swamiji can perform. These Poojas go on everyday forever.

Hello mate!!! I just watched the whole video and was really happy to see the way you described it and the way you addressed it, I understand that a foreigner visiting a holy place actually has a totally different perspective than what we Indians have and you still managed to agree with whatever the instructions were given to you ... but I would like to give you a small tip, PROBABLY before visiting any place (especially holy places) in India, you just have to do a bit of background check on the place which might have made you and your family a bit more comfortable to have a journey. Well, I would like to give some information and basic things that you need to know before visiting any temple in Karnataka, especially western Karnataka... First of all, this temple is actually not a tourism place as it is a MATHA which means a cloister or basically its a completely traditional and cultural place where they follow a lot many procedures than a temple so it may get difficult for a person to just go without any information about that place.. 2: In India, if you ever see a cow, especially infront of a Temple, it won't harm you in any way, all you need to do if give it a small touch and take blessings, you'll get some instant mind relief for some reason. 3: The people who visit such places are usually for some peace or relaxation and are completely devoted sometimes so you get the joy of visiting a place if you actually be a part of them, just ask for whatever wish you have in mind or problems that are troubling you when you see the main god, it gives you some happiness that you have shared it with someone. 4: Normally in such temples, especially in Karnataka, they provide you with a afternoon meal which is a must, I would probably never come out of a temple without having that PRASADA that they provide, which isn't just tasty but they also fill your stomach for an entire day, you will fall in love with it for sure(well, in some temples, non-vegans are not allowed to eat them but nowadays everyone are being provided a meal) 5: people who work there normally won't know English, they're just small workers who wouldn't have even gone to school so we probably need to understand that 6: you are not allowed to take pictures inside because the idol you just saw are being worshipped for centuries, this temple itself was established sometime in 13th century, they feel like clicking photos of it simply is an insult and the other reasons are you might have not witnessed it but almost everything inside the Pooja room were of gold and silver, they are obviously protecting it. 7: The big balloons you saw, you'll find it in every big temples which is a Chariot, every year once the idol is been kept inside that huge chariot and thousands of people pull it out together that day, basically a city rounds for the deity and if you have noticed, every temple has one huge pillar inside which you can even see from outside, it is as same as a idol of the temple so everytime you visit a temple next time, treat that pillar(normally made of gold or bronze) as an idol too and if you can't go inside or missed to see the god, just pray from out by seeing the top of pillar. 8: Normally men are asked to remove their shirts and wear lungis because being fully covered means you are hiding yourself and you are not honest to the deity. 9: Almost every thing you saw were made centuries back so every small sculptures and designs you saw are appreciable and has stories of centuries. Soooo, next time you visit any temple in Karnataka remember all these and yes, if you have gone there just try to experience the beauty of the place as much as you can, Vlogs can wait, just feel the vibe...I would even like to suggest you to visit Dharmasthala where you can actually even try and understand why are all these things are important... Please enjoy the place when you visit as much as you can! ❤️

Don't mix sambar, rasam etc at once. Mix them one at time and eat. Each has its own flavour. So first half of the rice mix rasam, eat then remaining rice sambar. Add some vegitable palya for more taste in between. There is no rules how we eat though. But thit is the common practice. This applies to poori, dosa as well. Don't mix sambhar , chutney at once.

I really loved the way you respect the Indian Culture, temples and even using the public transport from Mangalore to Udupi. There are better places to stay in Udupi rather than staying at a place which is not so family friendly. I really loved the way you tried eating the Thali through your hand without using the spoons. Felt really sad for your wife, who had to endure the hot scorching sun, carry her infant along and then eat that thali. Heartening to see the kids too eating rice, as it looks like they have brought up well by you and they seem to be very independent which you cannot see in Indian Kids of their age.

Rice which you ate in the restaurant was Boiled rice. This rice is good for health and digestion and better than white rice . But i feel you may not like it. Since you are eating it for first time . So avoid it and ask for white Rice in restaurants. Also no temples in south Karnataka will allow Photography inside temple its strictly banned. Its believed that if all people who visit temple start clicking pictures of deity then main purpose of praying to Deity is missed. So avoid taking Photographs inside temple so that you wont get into unnecessary trouble with security and temple authorities . Do visit following beaches in Udupi its good . 1) Malpe beach. 2) St Mary island. 3) hanging bridge 4) Diana Gadbad icecream -Hotel
