Excellent tutorial. Personally I used a metal spudger set to minimise damage. For those playing at home, the OEM battery is actually a 16650 cell, not an 18650. It's a Sanyo UR16650ZTA. 18650 cells don't seem to fit. If you're handy, you can solder off the tiny metal strips from the mini-BMS, solder new ones on, and spot weld them onto the new battery.

FYI: The original battery is 2230mAh / 8.6Wh Logitech Part Number: 533-000122 Watch in 4K and pause at 4:04 and you can spot it yourself. It boggles my mind that someone who (helpfully) took the time and effort to make a battery replacement tutorial wouldn't think to themselves "What is the first thing someone who needs to replace the battery on their UE Roll would need to know?" and include this most basic info in either the video or the description. I see this all too often in communication; "Come to my party!" but no date. "Yard Sale!" but no address. "Don't be late!" but no time. Just sayin'.

The point of this video isn't to teach you how to replace your battery with any random battery, but to teach you how to replace your battery with one provided by the poster. At 20 seconds in they deliberately show the QR code of the product. Scan that to buy. They don't explicitly mention the product or link to it in the description to get around youtube rules on advertising.

Thank you for posting this; very helpful. I ordered my batteries from the link you provided and received them today. Installation was not too bad, considering the battery appears just a tab larger in diameter. With a slight modification to the "sleeve" the battery sits/slides into, I got it to work. Snapping it together was another challenge, but no complaints. Once again, thanks for the video.

I followed the steps and it was fairly easy to replace the battery. However, several of the tabs broke when I was opening the speaker, so I can't close it properly. I'm not sure how you can tell if you are breaking them since they pop loudly even when they don't break. Since the first battery lasted about six years, I'm hopeful that I can use epoxy or glue to make the speaker watertight and not have to worry about it for another six years.

How do you know that it’s a battery issue? I have mine plugged into the USB all the time. It won’t pair with either of my devices today ... just up and died & won’t restart...dang!

On a full charge, my UE roll was only lasting about 3hrs, so I new my battery was toast. At best, the batteries typ only get about 250-300 charge cycles before showing capacity loss. Leaving it plugged in will also degrade the battery (just as it does on laptops & phones. As for yours not working, I'd try a factory reset: Press and hold the Volume “-” and the Power button together for about 10-15 seconds. You will hear a tone to confirm the reset was completed. The ROLL will turn off. When you turn it on again, it will be ready to pair. Hope this helps!

That's just an 18650 with a protection circuit right? Buy a Panasonic or Samsung one with higher mAH and transfer the circuit , then re-heatshrink?

bit late to comment, but just in case someone else needs to know. Yeah UE Roll 2 uses same battery. Same connector same size. Mine did not seal up quite as good after. Is sealed up perfect over about 75%. Just a very slight gap on the rest. I think I might have scuffed up the material and the material is not sitting flat. Not sure.. but not bothering to to it a second time in case I make it worse You can even squeeze in a slightly bigger 3400 mAh battery as well.

Actually, I did make it work in the end. I went back inside today (after sleeping on it) and discovered that the ribbon cable that leads from the battery housing assembly has become disconnected where it inserts into the board, (just above the bundle of coloured cables). This happened when I was striking to get the new battery in - which is a very tight fit if you put the foam back on! The foam all snagged when I did this. Anyway, after easily sliding the ribbon terminal back into its slot it powered up like normal.
