I immediately recognized all these verbs from Shakiras song La Tortura lol. I didn’t understand the lyrics as a kid but was able to memorize them. Didn’t know it’d come in handy when I actually tried learning 😆. I highly recommend listening to music in Spanish to help learn. La Tortura is a great song and the lyrics are very poetic. Thanks Dr Danny (and Shakira 😆) for being an amazing teacher and uploading these videos!! ❤️☺️

The video explains the concept of UE stem-changing verbs in Spanish, providing examples and demonstrating how to conjugate them. Key moments: 00:10 In this video, the focus is on UE stem-changing verbs in Spanish. These verbs have a specific pattern of stem changes involving vowels O and U. -Identifying UE stem-changing verbs based on the vowels O and U. Exploring examples like 'poder' (to be able to) and 'volver' (to return). -Understanding the stem-changing rules for UE verbs, such as replacing O with UE in the stem. Demonstrating conjugation for 'poder' and 'volver' in different forms. -Addressing stem-changing rules for verbs with different syllable counts, like 'volver' with three syllables. Explaining where the stem change occurs in such verbs. 04:54 Understanding stem-changing verbs in Spanish is crucial for language learners as they involve vowel changes in specific verb forms, enhancing conversational skills and fluency. -Stem-changing verbs like 'volver' and 'doler' in Spanish require vowel changes in specific forms, impacting pronunciation and conjugation. -Learning and practicing stem-changing verbs early on can improve conversational abilities and overall fluency in Spanish.

After you explained the rules, I paused the video at 1:13 and thought about the conjugations for *poder* and *dormir* and now it’s all making sense and coming together like puzzle pieces. And you’re right (something you said in the IE Stem Video), there’s no rhyme or reason to which verbs change the stem. You just… accept it. For instance, conjugating vivir vs dormir. I just know which changes stems and which doesn’t. “Yo dormo con la ventana abra” just looks soooo wrong.

How do you know if a verb is a stem changing verb?
@retha9011 ай бұрын
There’s no rhyme or reason. You just… accept it. For instance, in English we just accept children is the plural form of child. Why not childs? “My childs are playing in the yard.” 🛑❌😵🙅♀️Ewww, just wrong. “My children are playing in the yard. ✅✅✅ It gets easier with practice and time!! 😊

How do I know it’s a stem changing verb and not a normal verb.
@TheLanguageTutor4 жыл бұрын
The easiest way is to just memorize which ones are stem changers when you learn the verbs. Also, practicing in conversation solidifies it and you'll know when it sounds right.
