UE5 Lumen Tweaked + DLSS = better Performance 60FPS in Big City Matrix Sample

My machine (16core,64gbram,RTX3090) for some reason only managed to get 20-30 fps in the new Unreal Engine City Example.
That realy annoyed me.
So first I Enabled DLSS(with the help of my Discord member Philipp)
Then I tweaked Lumen and tried around with some settings...
and Voilà after 5 Hours of packaging a new project I was able to get 40 to 70 FPS in the big city example :D
DLSS however only seems to bring around 5-10%
The Lumen tweak another 10-30%
And Disabling Global Illumination brings me relatively stable 60fps (see around 5minute mark)
Recording cost around 5-10%fps too ;)

Do you remember what your lumen tweaks were Marvel Master? I've been trying to get some performance gains from lumen but it doesn't seem like there's too much customization available

I changed from hardware to software tracing. It does degrade the quality a bit but gains huge performance. But be aware it takes many hours to recompile

Hi Marvel Master! I'm making a VR project rn and I'm trying to use this city sample project but even my 3080 can't handle it in VR. It runs perfectly in third person, but I'm trying to optimize it for VR. Do you have any ideas on what optimizations would make it work for VR development?

you could try disable hardwareraytracing in project settings but beware it will do an ultra recompile might take 3-8 hours

I would love to see Epics Settings for PS5 and Co because I think the base scene pack as it is does not have the settings which would make it run on any console.

the consoles ran a 30 fps and also a 3060 can run this demo @30 fps so its doable with High quality settings

How do you use vsync? Or do you even use it?

Yes I enabled vsync... I used a console command or maybe config file edit might also be possible

Dlss has better quality that's why, therefore I disabled tsr

@@MarvelMaster Oh its incredible. Ive honestly been waiting for this since I got a 3070 on launch day. Soon it wont even be called DLSS, it will just be hardware temporal resampling incorporated as a standard into DirectX and Vulkan, and anyone with a nvidia 2060-3090 has hardware tensor acceleration ready to go!

What pc, Hardware are I using… this is Next gen stuff. So for ps5 and Xbox s… My 2080 Ti do 100FPS with a ryzen 5950x. What cpu do u use, but 3090 that’s not possible, it must be 3x faster then my 2080 Ti not even slower 🧐

100fps?? Well you should make some video about with your settings and how many city cells are loaded. I get around 2fps with all cells loaded and around 15fps with just a couple cells on an Ryzen5, RTX 3600, 64GB and M.2. A system which kind of matches with current console generation. I could go higher, but I am developing on a system like this to make sure that anything I do will run on a PS5/SeriesX and current "standard" rigs you would find in most homes in the next two years.

DLSS looks better, by a significant margin, it also performs about 30 percent better (from 31fps TSR to 44fps DLSS in a test spot, repeated and verified results) 3070,3600,32gb,NVME

@@ThunderOfficialPage Hey I commented under your first post on profile page. It shouldn't error out, DLSS is on by default. Maybe try newish drivers if you dont have them.

DLSS easily brought at least 25 percent more frames on my 3070. From ~31fps to ~44fps average.

It shouldn't give you any more performance than the build in TSR already does if you're upscaling from the same base resolution. IF you're getting extra performance it's because you have set to a higher setting than TSR.

@@MarvelMaster Thanks, architecture Skylake-X! release 2017. New cpu give you up fps 30-50% (Intel 12600k-12900 or amd Ryzen 5 5600x- Ryzen 9 5950X)
