To increase the distance (I totally forgot to mention this in the video) you have a parameter called "View Distance" in the Exponential Height Fog. By default it is set to 6000. Be careful, the farther the distance the more resources it will consume.

Thanks for this in depth tutorial! Though my fog works volumewise the appearance doesnt look like perlin noise, but its scaled in the Y axis - so instead of having a nice noisy fog its basically foggy vertical lines... Any clue how to fix it? Setting my cube to a low height makes it look quite good, but I would like to have a higher fog volume... any hints? :)

After I put the 1-x node my fog disappears completely... any idea why? Edit: Nevermind I found my mistake. I had forgotten to switch config on the TransformPosition node.

You missed the part of putting on the volumetric scattering on the light. Without it the fog don't show

Didn't tried in UEFN. Let me try I will make an edit to this comment EDIT: As you don't have control over the main directional light, I don't think it's possible. You do have a "Day_Sequencer", but it's grayed out, so I'm not sure you can put it in this version of the engine.

is it works only with directional light? I am asking becouse i added fog to scene where are only ponint lights and the fog works fine but its black

I have a similar setup with a HDRI lit scene, and my fog is black as well...

i came here because the other tutorial didn't work for me. i discovered it was enabling the 'volumetric fog' checkbox. just curious if i can use regular fog parameters and this together? i want fog to start at a certain point but the start distance and volumetric fog don't work super well together, any thoughts?

Thanks for the tutorial. One question, if I used the rotator/rotate node what would happen? Another question, how would I make the fog move up or down?

It shows up in my sequencer but in my movie Render Queue (the final render) it isn't visible. Any solutions to this?

Is there a way to make the transition smoother from the fog to "non-fog" area within the cube. When you added the -1 node it made the fog into a sphere, but I want the middle of the sphere to have 100% fog and the edge 0%...is that possible?

Fantastic video, man! Much to learn from you with such exceptional tutorials. Cant help but notice that the final results seem to have a lot of straight lines on it while the fog is moving. I assume this is because we are using a 2D noise texture that masks the fog from the world Z axis. Is there a way to use 3D noise and get that to look better?

Great tutorial, everything works as intended! Only issue I'm having is that the fog looks great in the live viewer window / sequencer, however, when I go to render through movie queue and bump up the temporal sub sampling (for motion blur) the fog seems to have a mind of its own. IE rendering very sporadically and behaving nothing like it is before I render. Any thoughts?

same here. If i look from the outside nothing can be seen when i go inside the block the fog is on full density even when i set it to the minimum

is there anyway to create local fog without enabling Volumetric Fog in Fog Settings ? it cost so much FPS

Unfortunately no, you can try to fake it with particles emitter and reduce the general one at the maximum. But it will still cost. Reducing the distance can be a good thing too

I seem to have an issue with the 1-x, once plugged in the texture/fog is completely invisible even with opacity at 1. without it plugged in I get a squared fog which is not ideal. any suggestions (using 5.0.1)

@@oliverbendsen in not on my comp right now but double check the mode in the material that is world space to local space and make sure its right way round.
