This a great example of the skill and precision that someone can obtain from dedicated practice...the techniques are straight to the point. I cannot help but admire these two and I would hope to get to that level one day...I love this video

ni200v - Thanks for kind words and sharing your thoughts. I utilize this style of throw on number 10 because of the finishing position of my stance once I've completed the attack. My preference is to aggressively drive forward and assert as much force as possible using the elbow strike, and as a result, I have to 'reset' my stance in order to gain a position of leverage on the attacker, prior to executing an effective throw.

Back when i practiced uechi ryu, i never got familiar with the expression "yakusoku kumite". It was always "the five old defenses" and "the ten new defenses".

I think Uechi-Ryu is such a interesting and powerful style of Karate. I only wish it was available here in AZ. Is there any distance training offered? Either way fantastic videos Sensei.

Try grand master mattsons online academy. He's the one who brought uechi ryu to the USA. You can learn online from him. If you have friends or family who want train too. Then you will have a training partner or uke to do kumite with .

Arigato Sensei Quimby, Your work continues to provide for us out in the public. I was personally wondering if you have a video for Kote Kitae (Arm Rubbing and Pounding) with all slowly and methodically broken down into its' component parts with explanations. All the best to you and be well.

Very crisp and powerful execution of the technique! I have a question, though, concerning your technique for the throw in yakusoku 10, which seems somewhat different from what I was taught. In your experience, would the sweep of your opponent's leg still have been effective if she had stepped through, into a good sanchin stance, with her last punch, rather than stepping into a stance where her feet are approximately in line with her shoulders? Thanks a lot!

Does Uechi ryu still follow the old school belt system? Curious 🧐
@AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Nmibubble. I think it varies from school to school. Even in Okinawa I see every school using different belts to represent the various steps in the kyu grading system. Personally, our dojo here outside of Boston uses the "conventional" system for adults, but I don't see any disadvantages to using other systems. There's even one sensei in Okinawa, a women, who has introduced pink (momo-iro) into her belt system. When asked why she replied, "I like pink."

The pause before the counter strikes teaches a very bad timing habit- otherwise excellent technique and kihon waza!

This video helps a lot. How many Yokosuka kumite are their in the okikukai?
@AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, sir. Okikukai has two formal yakusoku kumite, although the second version is considerably less popular and not as widely practiced. This version is required for grading at levels shodan through godan. Thanks again for your kind words.

Everything works when you know what's coming. Black belt in Uechi and enjoyed it just came to the conclusion most of this doesn't work like this in real life.
@AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody3 жыл бұрын
Well said sir! Reality is nothing like pre-arranged kumite and the like. But then again, Uechi is well respected as one of the most realistic styles of traditional karate. I guess it's like all things in that it comes down to how we apply our training that determines whether or not it truly works. Thanks for your comment.
