Yeah some of the guys suggested both grips and a stick for steamVR users but not in yet. In the meanwhile Steam VR bindings lets you do combo inputs like a grip and buttons or a grip and sticks to do a dpad

Rebinding Index controller is not completely possible as the only things correctly labeled are the A and B buttons which are named like A_right or A_left. Maybe Grip are lebaled to for left and right but touchpads, triggers, thumbsticks can't be assigned propperly as they have no indication if it's left or right controller. If those controller json files are within the mod, they might need to be labeled propperly first, telling SteamVR what is the left trigger, the right thumbstick, etc.

DPAD on index controllers can now be easy set using option 'Headset + Left controller' under Input->DPAD in UEVR injector v1.03. Downside is that controller will vibrate like crazy when you move it closer to your headset to activate DPAD, this then drains on battery.

@@pistopit7142 I just remap them in the SteamVR controller settings to my touchpad, so I never need to activate them with a button combination. :) That's one benefit of the Index, they are enough inputs left compared to Metas controller for example. I also map the system button to the touchpad for opening options and stuff.

I can't get the D-pad emulation working with Quest 3 touch controllers. If I rest my thumb on that empty space next to A + B buttons and move the left thumbstick in UDLR, nothing happens. Also holding the left Oculus Menu button doesn't work to emulation opening start/menu when using Virtual Desktop, it just exits Steam VR and goes to Virtual Desktop desktop mode.

Do you have gamepad emulation turned on in virtual desktop? That would over rule the UEVR commands. Ah wait just read you are using steamVR. That works only for openXR which is what you should use for a quest3 for more performance and better experience. SteamVR users will have to make their own bindings for it in steam input.

@@waifu_enjoyer Hmm I think the gamepad emulation might be turned on in VD, it's whatever the default is. Also I meant when I hold the Left Oculus touch menu button it doesn't do the UEVR command but instead does the thing with where it toggles out of the Steam VR environment and back to Virtual Desktop. But since I am using a Q3 I did have OpenXR, so was there another setting I should try?

I can't disable gamepad emulation on Virtual Desktop, the only options are "Automatic", "Xbox" and "Dualshock". Anyway, thanks for all the useful videos. Finally some games that can punish my RTX4090!

Does this apply to the Index controller as well? Also those don't have a usable system/meta button like the touch controller. "Start" and "select" would be needed to be mapped on the left or right touchpad for the Index for example. And I couldn't figure out how to map Xbox buttons to specific buttons on the Index controller.

@NextWorldVR yeah except many games don't seem to utilize it well at all or care to and when I was using uevr nothing even happened or seems to be binded to it, it's really just best at having custom binds attached to it through ovras

I had the same exact question. I think B on the right controller would make more sense in a lot of games.

Make sure you are using openXR and that your physical hardware has one (Quest touch controllers 1/2/3)

Hey Brother Thanks for you great guides. Maybe your next could be about that. Discord is full of questions about that, with no thourough answer. I choose openxr in the injector - when i start a steam game in virtual desktop it still starts steamvr, in one of your videos i think you sayed that wont work then? How do i start the game without steamvr?

The problem with the thumbrest is I dont know if mine works at all. It supposed to do something in home environment on quest but there is nothing.

I’m having trouble with the dpad function in RoboCop Rogue City. I’ve tried to switch it between both of the thumb rests in the uevr menu, and move the sticks up, down, left, and right but nothing happens. I’ve also tried to switch between thumb rest options in the mod menu and regardless it never registers the left dpad funtion in that game when you first get your upgrades. I haven’t tried any other games yet, but I’ve seen other people play Robo, and I was excited to try it but for some reason it’s not working for me. Any help in figuring this out would be appreciated.

What happens if i have both an xbox controller connected as well as oculus controllers? Will it default to the xbox controller? Do i need to unplug xbox controller to use the oculus controllers? (Nothing happens in terms of movement)

In my experience buttons work but will have to wait for the vr controllers to go to sleep when left on the table for analog sticks to work again on the gamepad.

Not sure only have a Quest 2/3. Check the discord for other WMR users. May have to use Steam vr bindings to make something for you as you won’t have the capacitive thumb rest.

I'm running into this problem too with a Rift S. Chatted with a few users on the Discord and they suggested using chords in Steam VR custom control bindings (assuming you're running a SteamVR game). For me this didn't end up working because I couldn't add things to custom keybinds like the mouse scroll wheel for next/previous weapon and I would have needed twelve face buttons to emulate the dpad functionality. For now I've found playing most games with an xbox controller is working really well for seated VR while still giving me the benefits of 6dof headtracking and the sense of presence/scale you only get in VR. I hope in the future the UEVR tool itself will have more dpad emulation bindings added or a way to customize them ourselves for those of us without the capacitive thumb rest (pretty much just Quest 2/3).

OpenVR is more complicated. Worth a separate video honestly. Look up steamVR binding tutorials. You can create custom control mappings in steamVR. “Chords” are combinations of buttons that trigger say dpad input you can create for each game. No more dpad emulation options built into UEVR for openVR currently but more may be added in future releases. Just launched so focus is on more pressing bugs etc.

Not with UEVR, but I have had success in doing so with a tool called OpenVR2Key. Watch my videos on Demonologist and Voidborn of me doing this to play them with motion controls.
