Dana says Fedor was big because he wasn't in the UFC what a joke. When Fedor dominated in Pride FC with the best heavyweights around the UFC had as a champ Tim Sylvia. He speaks about the fights he lost past his prime but ignores his reign. Fedor owned the following UFC champs: Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski, Big Nog, Frank Mir, Quinton Jackson, Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman. Meanwhile when the UFC decided to visit Pride Chuck Liddell got beaten up on the ring and someone like Anderson Silva who wasn't even a belt contender in Pride came in to be the longest reigning champion of the UFC. We know Fedor was past his prime when Dana was saying this but don't pretend he was a myth

I remember watching FEDOR, WANDERLEI, SHOGUN, CRO COP, MINOTAURO,ANDERSON etc... when PRIDE was at the top. THEY are legend of the sport! they made us dream and changed the mma world! Dana forgets that when Fedor was at his prime in the early 2000s, Pride was the top MMA organization. UFC was going down and about to be killed and even when Zuffa bought it initially they were suffering and most top fighters were in Pride. SO YES. Fedor fought in the top and best organization at the time (a.ka Pride). And he went unbeaten and defeated greats like Cro Cop, Big Nog, Mark Hunt and others (INCLUDING several ex-UFC champs).

Well, back when fedor fought the UFC heavyweight division sucked compared to the guys fighting heavy at pride, so fedor did what he had to do in his era to earn that greatness. I always enjoyed watching fedor fight for he was fearless and had alot of heart. I Respect what he did but even the greatest fighters have to hang up sometime.

People aren't listening to Dana. He's not saying "Fedor Sucks." He's saying that Fedor wasn't fighting the best fighters after Pride. Even in Pride, he didn't fight a lot of good guys one after the other. You could argue his beast streak was Syliva/Arlovski/Rogers, since they were all top 10 fighters at the time. Fact is that Fedor was the best at one point. Then, Anderson Silva and GSP came into their own in the UFC and took that title away.

Fedor has score 13-3 against UFC/former UFC fighters (if we don't count Maldonado and Schilt) and 7-1 against former UFC champions. He finished 4 former UFC champions in 5 matches and he defeated Nougeira 2 times on the ground. He is undefeated in Pride and he was undefeated for 10 years.

Ppl understand this. During Fedor's streak UFC had no top HWs. Then Sylvia & AA were top UFC HWs. Fedor beat them. Then he has a match against Barnett who was ranked num 2. I think Dana is right and wrong about WMMA. The problem is that the focus is on the weight classes of 135 and above. The pool is so shallow at 145 that Cyborg almost can't even get a fight. Their just aren't a lot of women who walk around at 135 pounds or higher, even athletic women. I think shifting focus to the lower weight classes would result in a larger pool of good female fights.

For 6-7 years Fedor fought the best heavyweights that anyone had to offer. It wasnt until the last 2-3 years that prime heavyweight talent has emerged in the UFC. So yeah its easy now to look back at some of his wins over sub-par opponents and mock him. But in the years that Fedor ruled Pride, who in the UFC's heavyweight division that was better? Arlovski? (beaten by Fedor) Sylvia? (also beaten by Fedor). Randy perhaps but we'll never really know since they never fought.

I agree that the aura of Fedor was really a bit overkill. However, he goes tries to discredit him by saying there were guys in the UFC who deserved it during the time that everyone said he was the greatest. Who? Rutten, Randleman, Couture, Barnett, Ricoo Rod. Arlovski, Sylvia? I mean....maybe he wasn't fighting the best in the world but I wasn't screaming about him coming over here to face those guys in 2005-2009. I mean, he fought half of those guys anyway.

@cjslanger FYI Couture is in the UFC hall of fame because hes one of only two fighters to ever hold two different belts in UFC. He is also the ONLY fighter to have won both the light heavyweight & HW UFC titles. Why would anyone that wants to prove they are the best in the world not want to prove it by joining the number one promotion that has the top fighters & the most money? Fedor & Couture both deserve respect for what they accomplished but there is know denying Fedor was ducking the UFC.

Dana is only half right. Ariel is more right that he was the best at the time. Dana forgot to mentioned that Fedor also beat Crocop who beat Josh Barnett 3 times, as well as beating up Minotauro twice and then 3 years later Minotauro went on to win the UFC heavyweight title from Tim Sylvia who went out to fight Fedor 5 months later only to lose to him in 36 seconds! Fedor was the best up until 2009 where I believe he started to look old & rusty against subpar opponant such as Brett Rogers.

Its funny chuck lidell fought Vernon White who was 20-24, fought jeremy horn who was way past his prime and had not had any significant win in years. Couture's last win was against who again, thats right a pro boxer with an 0-0 record. As a matter of fact eandys last three wins were not good ones. Fought Vera who was no were near the top 10 list, Fought coleman when he had lost 3 out of his last four fights. His argument against fedor could also be used against his top guys.

I definitely think he's overrated, even in his prime he fought the lower end of the UFC's heavyweight champions, i.e Coleman, Randleman and Sylvia. I don't think Couture would've beaten him, but I'm definitely certain Velasquez or Roid-Reem could've taken him out, hell if Lesnar managed to bullrush him and overpower him in the clinch, though Emelianenko's sambo was a bit underrated. He definitely was more of a light heavyweight if we're honest, and I doubt he'd be able to take the fight to say Cormier, Miocic or by any metric, Ngannou.

Hell Coleman was in 2006 and that was just before he retired for a bit. Not to mention the level of complete martial artists out there now is so far above what Pride ever had. Fedor was great for a bit, but let's not pretend he was ever the #1 HW or P4P fighter in the last 6 years.
