There becomes a point where the pain of truly reflecting on one's self becomes too great and we shut out the world to protect ourselves, and we inevitably forget who we used to be. All the people I've met who escape this either learn to accept the pain and grow or exude their true self and feel no pain when they hold up the metaphorical mirror. Both of these people though, always get labeled childish and immature, but that's only really because they can be the kid they always have been, and if you could do that too, then why wouldn't you? Their younger self didn't just die locked in a little box. Their younger self has actually grown and can be presentable and measured without being miserable and mean. The discipline it takes to become an mma fighter is unreal, and to have that maturity without forgetting who you were should be celebrated. I can't think of a more literal representation of being one's self than plastering your body with the things you love, that inspire you, knowing that you'll be ridiculed for it.
