Actually not really. You can have 17 consecutive victories but have a record of 17-10. If he didn’t say “without a single defeat” would simply mean the fighter had, well, 17 consecutive victories. By adding the latter portion of the sentence, it says that not only does the fighter have 17 consecutive victories, they’ve done so without EVER losing.
