Joaquin was a bad stylistic match for a fighter like Colby who wasn’t practically big for the welterweight division to begin with, especially considering the long inactivity from Covington, he didn’t show up much different besides his takedowns being a bit more sloppy.

For the next three months of interviews, he’ll talk about how he was feeling good and was just getting started and everything is the doctor’s fault. Womp womp womp. In the corner, the doctor told the ref and Colby if the eye gets any worse, I may have to stop it. Colby gets off the stool to begin round two an instantly starts poking himself in the cut “wiping the blood away” the the corner had just tended to. @ I really dislike Tuporia. But I consider him the best talent of his generation and an amazing fighter. It’s really not that difficult. Either you hate a style or you dislike it. I like Khabibs ground and pound style. So I ain’t gonna criticise Jon Jones when he does the same even though I despise Jones. It’s really quite simple.

@ I love Volk (though I haven’t seen most of his earlier fights) and I would be furious if just layed on him. I love Islam but I was furious he didn’t go for a sub when he had Volks back even though I understand tactically why he didn’t. That’s just my approach. I respect your opinion but that scenario would be specific for one fight. It wouldn’t be based on an entire style as opposed to Colby.

Colby looked like he didn't want to be in there, and more he had to fill in an obligation. You saw from the first takedown defence Buckley made. Colby had a face of a bully that had picked on the wrong kid. So happy for Buckley, dude looked great in there.
@thewritermichaelis2008 күн бұрын
I disagree I think that he more or less dialed back the act, so he may not have seemed as confident. But I feel he did wanna be there, like his spirit did, he tried man. I think Father Time is just catching up Colby is getting up there in fighter years.
@laptv21448 күн бұрын
You’re delusional. He didn’t look like that at all and he had increasingly more success wrestling and holding Buckley down as the fight went on. The opposite of what you’re suggesting.

@38:00 the doctor was too squeamish. She told the ref "he's about to lose his eyelid" when she called off the fight. His cut was entirely on the brow, not even touching the eyelid, meanwhile Nate Diaz' brow was literally falling off his own face. Colby's cut was even less deserving to be stopped.

Petrino the Bull on all the Power Up's gets wrangled, he was doing the counter left hook like Izzabelle does and so DJ timed a straight right like SS did. Covington realized quickly that Buckley has orangutang range and that he was just not able to adapt against it, also that Buckley is too strong for takedowns, fight quickly turned into Covington having one eye and Buckley feeling confident to throw KO combos. Covington was winning the gas tank war until the eye, you can tell Covington wanted the deep 4 and 5.

Looking back, the cut might have made it seem like colby was getting beat worse than he actually was, but Colby was getting hit with pretty good shots fairly often. Maybe the blood constantly pouring in his eye contributed to that striking differential... idk. Either way I don't think his wrestling looked as good as it did in the past. Age took something
