No way a slight, 5'10" or so 36 year-old D1 wrestler, with average striking, is going to have a 50-50 shot against a 32 year-old 6'2" 190lb elite striker with very good wrestling --- not as good, in pure wrestling, as Colby's D1 but good enough to be champ, as one of the 8 other elite striking based UFC champ roster, a roster which is totally devoid of D1 wrestlers (hasn't been for years) ---- with elite TDD, and with very good BJJ, who is stronger, faster, and more agile. If they had fought 4-6 years ago, sure, a 50-50. Today, Colby has roughly a 7% probability. At the UFC, only 2 out of 29 fights that someone 35 or over was able to take the belt from a prime guy. D1 wrestling is not MMA; nor is WWE. If D1, in general, was as powerful AN MMA TOOL as you silly boys are saying, there would be several D1 wrestler champs at the largest MMA organization in the world. If Colby's D1, in particular, was as overwhelmingly effective as you silly boys said, Colby wouldn't have to wait until he's almost 36 to win the belt from a bigger, taller, younger, faster elite striker who defeated Usman twice in a row. If Colby's D1 was that effective, he would have rag dolled EVERYONE put in front of him since he BARELY defeated a 5'8" BJJ guy in RDA, who was #1 in 2018, when #4 Colby squeezed by him on his way to his first belt fight against Usman.... There is NO DOUBT, Colby is a very durable fighter, with very good cardio. But, unfortunately, he isn't any bigger, taller, stronger, faster, or more capable than Islam or Charles, at 155. (I'd pick both Islam and Charles to beat Colby, too, given their specialty in BJJ...plus their elite Muay Thai, with Islam also being a Sambo & Judo elite.) Anyway, at 170, Colby just doesn't have the height, size, strength, agility, range, or sudden-fight-ending skills or power to defeat the likes of Usman, Leon, Shavkat et al.

Well, you are correct, but Usman doesn’t rely on his wrestling as much Colby, so I don’t think it’s really a fair way to assess things. Colby will shoot, shoot and shoot again. Usman didn’t need to use his wrestling the 2nd Leon fight and was dominating until he got kicked, and I think he was really gun shy about doing anything in the rematch. That’s not to say Leon can’t or won’t be able to stuff Colby’s wrestling, but I think it will be a little more difficult than it was with Usman. If nothing else, Colby will utilize volume like he always does.

In 2019 Colby fought an outta prime Lawler and got a title shot against Usman. He took a year off and fought another out of prime Woodley. Turning down a Leon Edwards fight he took 14 months off before being fast-tracked to a second title shot. He then faced Masvidal and was absent for 21 Months. Now he's getting a third title shot after ducking the top contenders in his division. If you still think he deserves a title shot be honest with yourselves. You're only a fan because of politics.
