Apparently he was getting joint popping noises so it definitely was damaging the ligaments as intended . You never abandon it if it’s breaking until you fully dislocate removing the entire limb from battle . Your opponent is just lengthening his injury time from weeks to never the same as each tear happens . He just needed a bit more pressure for s serious break of the dorsal ligaments n possibly some dislocating. Keep in mind the lighter weights have less strength to fully break all ligaments n dislocate the joint.

I think the only way to make BJJ exciting is to make fighters have to go for submissions, and that’s the only way to score points. Instant guard pulling should stop time and warn the fighter, 2nd time take a point, 3rd time DQ. If they stand up and only push, after 2 minutes they both start on the ground. After that they can only get points for their submission attempts or win by submission only.

I love the leg log game in the sport of jujutsu. That being said, it is a far cry from actual self-defense. Many times during this match Mikey had both hands on one leg of his opponent at which his opponent could easily have blasted his jaw or his head and completely knocked him unconscious. The reason I bring this up is isn’t the entire origin or genesis of jujutsu human self-defense? If that’s the case, the sport aspect has definitely steered quite a ways away from this.

Mikey pulled guard…but he still won with a dominant performance. Didn’t get the finish, but never gave Machado a chance to do ANYTHING offensively. That’s a hard thing to do at this level. Also, BJJ can have stand up but it’s also a ground sport. And not all UFC fights are flashy and super exciting. Sometimes, even at the highest levels, they can get kind of boring.

Sport BJJ still breeds good self defense. Sport BJJ Mikey fights much different than street fight Mikey. He’s smart he knows what works under what rule set. He wouldn’t butt scoot on concrete. Sport BJJ might not be self defense focused, but it still gives someone a massive self defense advantage as long as they know what techniques to use. In sport BJJ you get taught takedowns and a standup game that would be effective in the street. So whether or not these guys use those street fight effective techniques in competition, they still know how to use these techniques to fight in the streets. Ask yourself, if you’re untrained, would you want to fight in the streets against a top 10 BJJ athlete at their weight class, but he always pulls guard in competition? I highly doubt it.

@@user-he4ef9br7z Yeah lol it was about time he got slammed. His family actually teaches BJJ for self defense so I’m surprised his takedowns were non existent.

Why doesn't Mikey compete in IBJJF or any other major tournaments anymore, and why doesn't he do ADCC or CJI? He only does a single match like every 4-6 months now.

This was Intense, Gordon talking through things definitely added a lot to everything. I saw a small Darce attempt (no commitment) from Mikey at one point and wish he would go for it. I understand what his game is and he wants to win, but It would be nice to see him hit some other submissions and develop that way, being at the leading edge of JuJitsu in the spotlight. Awesome athlete to watch tho and work his leg game regardless.

I don't recall so much overcoaching from the corner. Take a page from Danaher and feel confident you've prepared your athlete. Telling your athlete that he's "on top", or that you're in, or to not let go is hardly helpful.

I really hate that grappling has become about grabbing ankles and swirling around like two slugs making love. But it works. So you better learn it if you’re gonna compete or come up with some kind of crazy defense for it.

Everytime I watch any of these martial art videos but especially during jj events, I always have a "But couldn't someone just..." and in this case the ending to the sentence is "...kick him while he butt scoots?" MMA is just this, plus the ability to punch or kick the butt-scooter.

@@TheGeovanibetin This isn't a match about not getting submitted only lol. Not only did Mikey successfully damage his feet (the pops confirm that), but he was forced on a defensive cycle the entire match. Not a single attack. You only taunt when you've completely dominated your opponent, and even then it's cringe.

Shut up, Felipe helped him up and tapped him on the shoulder as a sign of respect. He's allowed to have an ego in a competitive environment, where he clearly wants to signal how 1 dimensional his opponent was being in the match.
