@@macaluso48 Bad way? There had to be rules set in place to be sanctioned as a sport and not banned in every state. The current UFC survived while countless other organizations went under. Yeah, let Paul Varelans hold the fence for 5 mins!

@@AneudiD78 yup that's bc america has harsher rules on fighting its martial arts contest not a sport to me again America is soft with this stuff and I'm American

If fence holding would have already been illegal at this point, Paul would have died in the first 5 minutes

If you have a nickname such as "King of the Streets" in a violent city like Rio and the birthplace of bjj. You are one of a kind.

I think it's only because his surname is Ruas ("street" in Brazilian Portuguese)

Love to watch Ruas fight, he was one the first all around threats in early MMA. He could punch, kick and submit very well. His weakness however, was his fragileness. He was probably older than many of his opponents but he bailed out of fights or was forced to quit fights cause he was injured during the matches.

Before the UFC started, I thought Kung Fu was the deadliest art, had no idea what grappling was outside of Judo flips, had never heard of Muay Thai or leg kicks in fighting. How the UFC changed perception in martial arts and combat sports in general is incredible.

Smart man you learned to adapt mean while plenty of Folks still pay to get a black belt in some bs Karate (not that there arent legit forms of karate for fighting) and even now its happening to some MMA gyms watering down BJJ and wrestling and not teaching proper self defense but rather sport defense which can help in a real street fight but is not the best its sad we are coming full circle

I have never seen a better fighter in the UFC than Marco Ruas , he was the complete fighter that proved himself in the ring , then just disappeared as fast as he came in . He would chop any fighter down with just those brutal leg kicks. I wish i heard more about him leaving.
