As an Indian, I never understood this obsession with indian gurus. They come in all types. Good & Bad. Just read the scriptures But make sure They are translated by true Indian authors because there are many deliberate mistranslations out there.

I think this phenomenon sprung up for a couple of reasons, though primarily I think it's a result of the fact that the West was subject to centuries of spiritual poverty, first on behalf of the church which quite brutally suppressed the many previously existing "western mystery traditions"- i.e. Manichaeism, the Gnostic traditions, Hermeticism, etc. then for a second time in the 18th century by those seeking to break the grip of religiosity on socio-political life in Europe. By the time the enlightenment came around and largely supplanted the role of the church, the other traditions went into the "historical dustbin" with it and became "occult". This left many millions of people yearning for a sort of "authentic", experiential spirituality which was not on offer by either the church, or contemporary secular philosophy and because the previously existing traditions had vanished almost without a trace(especially in the early-mid 20th century), it lead many to look to the East where spiritual lineages were perceived as having remained unbroken and where such ideas and practices were still taken seriously. Many others became proponents of Theosophy (as in the case of a much younger UG in fact), others took to ceremonial initiatory lodges such as the Hermetic Golden Dawn, still others became engulfed in psychedelics during the 1960's, and so on.

To be perfectly fair, there are many more people in India being exploited this way contemporarily than there are Westerners. Of course people in the west are- and at the time of this interview in particular were to a far greater extent- susceptible to this sort of thing, but they're hardly alone. How many people of Indian descent claim Sadhguru as their spiritual teacher as compared with Americans for e.g.? The followers of Osho were largely Westerners at the time, the people who uphold his legacy to this day mind you are overwhelmingly not. It was UG and Jiddhu who were taken in by the Theosophical society- not the other way around. We are all tragically susceptible to bullshit unfortunately.

This Krishnamurti knows nothing about spirituality... Complaining about India and writing books on it is the way he earned his bread... No wisdom could be gained from his teachings... What he forgot is that even Jesus Christ came to India and had all the knowledge he had from Himalayan yogis which all the western countries follow... Jesus Christ was a true Kriya yogi...

Just pray, or go within, meditate, do the mantra or breath thing, do nothing, enjoy meditation once in a while, get to know yourself as consciousness/the space beyond the body also. There's nothing more to it, the entire message in one sentence, people who claim you need them or they got something extra are all full of it.

Well ancient Gurus certainly did have solutions to day-to-day problems for all Royals and the commons. But Even Indians are skeptical of present day gurus as most are frauds, Real tapaswis and Gurus won't meet you and have no time to solve your problems, they have time to focus on the being beyond. They know that the humans of today's generation are a lost cause and that is also one of the reasons we call this Era, The Era of Darkness a.k.a Kaliyuga.

It is easy to criticise, but cannot provide anything better. I don't think they have any solution for their daily problems, but you are not any better. You are looking for a market too.
