So, power part overstress, part shorted, part cooked, and sense resistors cooked. If you look at IPC repair production procedures they are about repairing the PCB, meaning traces, solder mask, etc, and not repairing field returns (field returns are based on IPC procedures but with added procedures). If you get qualified for IPC 7711/7721 you are trained in how to best repair the actual PCB. You could reuse the foil but you would have to first remove part of the damaged FR4 with a Dremel like tool and a die grinder tip to get better access to the power vias for soldering and a better surface for pad adhesive. You want to expose more of the via side area before soldering to the old foil pad after it has been glued in place. You can actually glue a new signal trace in place of the old one before soldering instead of a tinned wire, for any exposed areas you would cover with solder mask. The most diverse PCB repair, in my opinion, is in prototype production runs. The repairs can be very intense where you have to use a micro drill press and specialized jigs. If the failed DPAK power part is not needed for testing, I just use a very fine flush cutter to cut the part leads before de-solder. It is better than lifting the lead which may slightly delaminate a pad. The secret to adding the proper amount of solder paste to these older thermal via designs is to use a controlled paste dispenser. It will dispense a very controlled amount of paste per a panel setting. Once you figure out the best setting for the pad in question, it is very easy to add the exact amount of paste every time. Just dial and shoot, it is very fast and repeatable. If you preheat the board the soldering will be much easier with less thermal stress.

Hello, Nice video. What is used to remove the glue that is used to hold PCB to the housing?

Thanks! I don't use anything special. This particular ecu is a bit tricky to remove from case safely.

Is that from an early 2000's T-Bird? It certainly looks like mine. I think that I need your help.

no its from an escape. There is not much success repairing those older Tbird ecu's for the tranny problems sorry. I stopped taking them cause there is just not much I can do with them.

What do you call to the green material/liquid you used. Its like a non-conductive material covering the pcb.
