Ugly Chipped Hoof Restored With A Trim

Hi I’m a farrier from the uk today I will be trimming Hunter. As you can see Hunter has a big chip in his hoof which we will treat today with a trim.

I feel for farriers… here in QLD Australia… it’s either Too wet and we’re battling seedy toe or way to dry and we are moisturising! Today I treated our white footed pony for thrush AND put an moisturising oil on! Lol

Greetings from Southern California where dry hooves are a very common occurrence. We have to use moisturizing oils or treatments like Mane 'n Tail Hoofmaker for the horses here. I've seen farriers try trimming the sole with a knife but the sole was so dry that it was like trying to peel a marble. But because we are so dry we don't often see thrush or white line issues.

The barefoot trimmers in these parts purposely trim the hoof like the before picture in the thumbnail of this video. They gut the quarters & say that it's best because it mimics the hoof in it's natural form & then charge the horse owner $80 (£42) It's nice to see your quality trimming work.Thanks
